New banners depicting the members of the Big Hero 6 superhero team have been installed in San Fransokyo Square at Disney California Adventure. We noticed the vibrant new art on a recent trip to the park.
New Character Banners in San Fransokyo Square
The posters hang from a red archway situated between the buildings that host the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop and The Bakery Tour.
There are six different double-sided posters, and they hang from both sides of the overhead structure. Each member of Big Hero 6 has their own poster. They all appear in their hero costumes against vividly-colored backdrops underneath their names, which are written in both English and Japanese.
Each character appears on a different colored banner: Hiro Hamada’s is green, Honey Lemon’s is yellow, Go Go Tomago’s is orange, Wasabi’s is blue, Fredzilla’s is pink, and Baymax’s is purple. Each hero is framed by a black sunburst-like design that evolves in color and stretches to the edge of the banner.
Two more banners featuring the Big Hero 6 team have been added to a building facade near the arch. The posters hang above a garage door that features a graffiti-like mural that (indirectly) reads “San Fransokyo Square loves Big Hero 6.”
The banners showcase the heroes in a stylized fashion. They stand in front of portals similar to the one seen in the 2014 Walt Disney Animation Studios film. A message spread across the two banners (again indirectly) reads “San Fransokyo Square loves Big Hero 6,” and there’s additional text that reads “Brought to you by Wharfside Travel Agency.” Wharfside Travel Agency is a fictional business referenced throughout San Fransokyo Square and is a nod to the former Pacific Wharf area of Disney California Adventure, which occupied the current home of San Fransokyo Square from the park’s opening day until last month.
San Fransokyo Square
San Fransokyo Square is a “Big Hero 6”-inspired section of Disney California Adventure that formally opened on August 31, 2023. The area opened in semi-phases before that day, however; the Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill and Lucky Fortune Cookery started serving “Big Hero 6”-themed meals and desserts in late July, and The Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería opened around that same time.
While there are no attractions in San Fransokyo Square, there are several dining options throughout the themed land. Aunt Cass Cafe, a reference to Hiro’s aunt, opened alongside the land and serves a menu containing both American and Asian cuisines (and the adorable Baymax Bread). You can read our review of every item on the Aunt Cass Cafe menu here.
While visiting San Fransokyo Square, guests can also cross the San Fransokyo Gate Bridge, shop at the San Fransokyo Maker’s Market, and meet Hiro and Baymax outside the Hamada Bot Shop.
