Construction work is done in the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa (for now) but continues outside and in guest rooms. The resort has remained open during its years-long refurbishment.
Grand Floridian Construction
Pathways have reopened through this set of construction walls.
More scaffolding has been erected behind the trees around the side of this building.
The scaffolding reaches up to the roof of the building.
Most of this scaffolding has been in place for weeks.
Work has included replacing the resort’s red roof tiles.
This side of the building faces the pool courtyard.
At the next corner, scrim is around the edge of the roof.
Some scaffolding has come down from above Gasparilla Island Grill.
The restaurant has remained open during construction, but guests have to walk through construction walls. With work wrapping up around it, the walls may come down soon.
Scaffolding is gone from around this corner too. A green fence is up at the edge of the construction site.
A lift is visible behind the fence, next to the Gasparilla Island Grill entrance.
We noticed a new section of pavement here.
From across the Seven Seas Lagoon, we saw crew members in two lifts working on this building.
One crew member was working on a guest room balcony.
Grand flo construction from boat more scaffolding down work started on building.
We could also see clear signs of roof work, with some shingles missing, exposing the black sheathing beneath.
Across the beach, more scaffolding is visible around the first few floors of another building.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Refurbishment
Former CEO Bob Chapek began a major overhaul of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa when he took over the Parks & Resorts division in 2015. The updates began with the “Beauty and the Beast”-themed Enchanted Rose Lounge, which replaced Mizner’s Lounge. Cítricos followed with a new “Mary Poppins”-inspired design. When the Grand Floridian Spa reopened in January 2022, it too had been remodeled.
All rooms of the Grand Floridian Resort are still being updated and some “Mary Poppins” theming has been added throughout guest buildings.
Narcoossee’s was closed from June 2022 to April 2023, and reopened with a revamped interior and “land and sea” menu. Read our Narcoossee’s review here.1900 Park Fare, the character dining buffet location at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, is still closed for refurbishment. The restaurant has not reopened since it closed in March 2020 with the rest of Walt Disney World Resort due to COVID-19.
Disney confirmed that the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will be remodeled but “will maintain the classic theming you know and love with some fresh new enhancements.” The remodel was delayed to next year.
