During Halloween Horror Nights 2023 at Universal Studios Hollywood, guests can enjoy Blumhouse: Behind the Screams. The experience has taken over DreamWorks Theater on the upper lot with props, photo ops, and more from Blumhouse horror films.
Blumhouse: Behind the Screams
The Grabber from “The Black Phone” greets guests outside the theater in his signature mask, holding black balloons. He reappears in the queue.
Once inside the theater lobby, guests have several minutes to explore the displays.
There’s a photo op for “The Black Phone” featuring the film’s title above a phone on a wall, with black balloons all around.
The photo op is in a house-shaped stand with “BH” on the outside.
On the other side of the photo op is a group of mannequins dressed all in black with LED masks from “The Purge.”
Posters for various Blumhouse films are on the walls, covering the DreamWorks posters. The Grabber’s costume is on display.
There are also costumes from “The Invisible Man.”
There are two chairs with leather straps from the upcoming “The Exorcist: Believer.” The new film also inspired a house at HHN this year.
M3GAN
Look out — M3GAN is here. She’s confined to a display case, but we would still be careful.
Five Nights at Freddy’s Animatronics
The centerpiece of the experience is the four life-size animatronics from “Five Nights at Freddy’s.” The film inspired by the hugely popular video games will be in theaters on October 27.
A guide shares some facts about the props, including that it took the Jim Henson Creature Shop 15 months to build the animatronics.
The four decrepit animatronics are Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy.
After several minutes in the lobby, guests are escorted into the movie theater to see a preview of Blumhouse films.
The preview video begins but doesn’t have sound. After some tinkering, they try to restart it, but it gets cut off. The host calls for technical help, when the screen suddenly goes white, showing his silhouette. Then M3GAN appears behind him. She kills the host with a machete, causing blood to splatter across the screen.
The lights go out and then come back on, revealing M3GAN in the flesh on stage. When the lights flicker again, there are several M3GANs on stage and in the aisles around guests. They dance and then the experience ends.
