The Disneyland Monorail has reopened following a near-two month refurbishment. As of September 1, guests are once again able to board the Disneyland Resort’s “highway in the sky.”
Disneyland Monorail Re-Opens
We saw the iconic vehicle make its approach to the station in Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park, for a voyage to the Downtown Disney District.
The most noticeable changes of the renovation are an updated Monorail station in the Downtown Disney District and an overall smoother ride experience. Track work has been done, and it’s obvious that the entire path has been power-washed.
Now, let’s head to Downtown Disney.
The station is now a rich blue tone with white and silver detailing, marking a significant departure from the rustic copper and gray colorway that was previously present.
The Disneyland Monorail closed for refurbishment on July 5 with a targeted end date of August 31, a date it either hit or just missed depending on perspective — while the Monorail didn’t reopen on August 31, that is technically the day that the refurbishment was completed.
This Monorail became the first daily-operating system of its kind in the Western Hemisphere when it opened its doors in 1959. Today, it’s more of a relaxing way to escape the heat and crowds than it is an actual means of transportation; guests can ride the rails from the Downtown Disney District and the nearby Disneyland Hotel on a tour of the resort including a ride past Disney California Adventure and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.
Ride with us on our first trip since the attraction’s reopening below, including a glimpse at some of the work being done throughout the Downtown Disney District and the newly renovated station.
