REVIEW: Disney’s Newest Snack Is Like Frankenstein’s Monster and We’re Here for It

We’ve had our fair share of Disney snacks, but every once in a while something comes along that really wows us.

Atomic Pretzel

Mickey pretzels and churros are great, but when you’re searching for something special they just won’t hit the spot. We’ve tried plenty of new snacks around the parks and hotels lately, but we think we may have found one that is really something.

We hopped on over to Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel to stop by GCH Craftsman Grill for one reason and one reason only: The Gordita Dog. What exactly is a gordita dog? We’re so glad you asked.

The gordita dog is a cheese-crusted flatbread filled with a black bean spread, stuffed with an all-beef hot dog, and topped with pico de gallo, chipotle aioli, and fresh cilantro served with a side. We picked fries! You can get this dog for $13.75.

Gordita dog

We’ve tried a lot of hot dogs of the month at Craftsman Grill, and this one is definitely one of the most interesting. The cheese-crusted flatbread was our favorite part and really elevated the hot dog, which is not really something we ever thought we’d say. It was warm and cheesy with a little spice from the aioli, and there was a nice crunch on the outside despite it being light and fluffy on the inside.

On the inside

The pico de gallo went well with the flatbread and added a welcome acidity to an otherwise pretty savory, salty snack. The beans provided an earthy, sweet flavor that helped to fully round the flavors out. The hot dog itself is definitely overpowered by everything else going on here, but we certainly didn’t mind.

Unfortunately, our fries were served more cold and crunchy than hot and fluffy, and there wasn’t a whole lot of actual potato on the inside — as if someone left them in the fryer for too long.

Our fries were cold

If you’ve ever had a Sonoran hot dog, this is kind of reminiscent of that. Fans of tacos, Mexican flavors, and hot dogs would likely get a kick out of this. We loved this inventive and fun take on a normally standard snack and think it should be added to the permanent menu! If you’re not a hot dog person, or fan of tacos or similar flavors, you might not like this as much as we did.

There she is

There are always more snacks where this came from, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more!
