September has arrived, and with it comes the special monthly cookies at Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs. We got both and reviewed them to see if they’re worth the trip.
September 2023 at Gideon’s Bakehouse
This month’s menu card features Stuart Valencia and Bonnie Brae, and sees the return of their cookies to the menu, though one has a new twist.
The Orange Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookie, otherwise known as “Stuart’s Cookie,” is returning once again, after originally debuting back in April 2021.
The Lemon Poppy Crumb Cookie is an updated version of the Lemon Poppyseed Cookie, also named “Bonnie’s Cookie.”
Orange Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookie – $6
vanilla bean cookie dough fused with orange and mixed with dark chocolates, South Florida pecan pralines, and candied orange peel
This Florida-themed cookie starts off with a vanilla bean cookie base, a staple of Gideon’s lineup which will please most palates. The base is then infused with a massive kick of orange flavoring, joined by candied orange peels on the top.
The orange flavor is not subtle, and the candied oranges give it a slightly artificial taste, even though we know Gideon’s is using organic orange.
The dark chocolate chips are heavily added, both inside and out, and are the strongest flavor. This tastes like a chocolate chip cookie with orange added, not the other way around.
Finally, the pecan pralines are a nice addition but difficult to identify among the other flavors and textures.
Overall, if you enjoy the combination of chocolate and orange, you can’t go wrong with this cookie — but snackers looking for a more subdued taste have come to the wrong place.
Lemon Poppy Crumb Cookie (Bonnie’s Cookie) – $6
lemon poppyseed cookie filled with poppyseeds and white chocolate, topped with lemon butter crumbs covered in a thin sugar glaze
If you like your cookies on the crispy side, don’t get this cookie. If you dislike lemon, don’t get this cookie. But if you love moist cookies and lemon flavor, you’ll enjoy Gideon’s latest monthly offering.
There are no subtle hints with this treat, as the lemon flavor really comes on strong.
The crumbs on top of the cookie are flaky, but as you go deeper, you get to an almost dough-like consistency on the bottom. The poppyseeds add visual interest, but not much otherwise in the way of flavor or texture.
The melted white chocolate chips inside don’t do much to counter the tartness of the lemon, but they do offer some creaminess once you reach them.
The sugar glaze on top is super sticky, so be sure to have a napkin or wet wipe handy — or better yet, enjoy this with a fork or spork instead of your hands.
As always with a Gideon’s cookie, your best bet is to find a fellow lover of lemon to share this with, or have an adequate to-go container on-hand.
These cookies are both only available at Gideon’s Bakehouse hrough the end of September, and there’s a limited supply of them available each day. Gideon’s Bakehouse’s previous monthly cookies include the “Eternal Flame” cookie and a peanut butter chocolate swirl cookie, which they also made available as a cookie cake.
