Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Walt Disney World Resort both won 2023 Golden Ticket Awards.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (as well as at Disneyland Park) won Best Dark Ride. Rise of the Resistance opened in 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and 2020 at Disneyland. It’s a trackless dark ride and motion simulator. Guests become Resistance fighters captured by the First Order and trying to escape a Star Destroyer. In the queue and ride, characters Rey, Poe Dameron, Finn, and Kylo Ren appear. It’s generally considered one of the best new Disney rides in recent years, as well as one of the best rides ever.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, which opened in 2022, won Best New Attraction Installation. The EPCOT roller-coaster replaced Ellen’s Energy Adventure. Guests enter through the Wonders of Xandar Pavilion and join the Guardians of the Galaxy on a time and space-hopping adventure, running from the Celestial Eson. It features a soundtrack of six rotating songs (and a holiday remix in the winter):
- “Disco Inferno” by the Trammps
- “I Ran (So Far Away)” by A Flock of Seagulls
- “Conga” by Miami Sound Machine
- “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears
- “One Way or Another” by Blondie
- “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was also number 23 on their list of 2023’s Top 50 Steel Roller Coasters.
The Golden Ticket Awards named Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge the Best New Family Attraction.
