The PROBLEM With EPCOT’s New Moana Attraction

Disney fans are getting EXCITED as October 16th approaches.

Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana

Why? Well, that’s when the all-new Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana attraction will officially open for all Disney World guests. Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club Members, and Cast Members have been able to preview the attraction, and believe us when we tell you that for a walk-through attraction, Journey of Water is awesome. Since we were able to preview the attraction with our Cast Member friends, we’ve gotten a lot of questions from our readers on what they can expect. One of the main questions we’ve gotten has to do with WEATHER.

Since this walk-through attraction is outdoors AND involves water, inclement weather is a valid concern. In case you didn’t already know, Disney World Cast Members are not allowed to be out in the open if there is lightning or heavy rain in the area. When Cast Members have to take cover or an attraction closes for bad weather, it’s called a ‘Weather 101.’

Journey of Water

During Annual Passholder previews, we found our answer. Disney World was hit with some rough weather, and the attraction did close. When we asked the Cast Member if this was what would happen each time lightning was recorded in the area, they confirmed that yes, the attraction would always close for lightning and severe weather. This is kind of unfortunate, as it typically storms once a day or once every few days at Disney World, AND the attraction is so new, so everyone will be headed there anyway. Combine this with a flock of people after attraction closures and you’ve got yourself a pretty crowded situation.

Temporarily closed

We also got a few other questions answered when it comes to staying dry! As you may already know, there is a wet path and a dry path throughout the attraction. The dry path is just a few feet away from the regular, wet path, and just prevents you from getting splashed by the water effects. The wheelchair-accessible path is the dry path, and while service animals are allowed in certain areas of the wet path, it’s recommended they stay on the dry path.

This will keep you nice and dry!

We’ll continue to keep you updated with more Disney World and attraction news, so make sure to follow along so that you’re always in the loop.
