The Secret Way to Get a SECOND Passport and Why You Want One

Are you planning a Disney Cruise or traveling to one of Disney’s international theme parks?

Maybe you’re wanting to see World of Frozen when it opens in Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (we don’t blame you). Or maybe you want to check out the updated hotel at Disneyland Paris. Perhaps you want to cruise in Europe with Disney Cruise Line. Whatever your plans, you will need one very important document: a passport. But did you know you could get TWO passports?

There’s a little-known loophole on the State Department website that allows travelers to apply for a second passport. If you already have a valid U.S. passport and meet additional requirements, you could be eligible to apply for a second one. However, if you DO get a second passport, it will only be valid for four years or less (your first passport is good for ten years).

You can get a second passport

The State Department will issue a second passport if a foreign country will deny a visa or entry to travelers because of stamps showing travel to other certain countries. A second passport also might be issued if you need multiple visas on an ongoing basis because of frequent travel. If you need a U.S. passport for an urgent international trip, but your application for a foreign visa is delayed or can’t be processed in time for your trip, you could get a second passport. You can also get a second passport if you need special validation for travel to a restricted country.

So these requirements might not exactly apply to you, although if you do travel a lot, you may qualify for a second passport. It would certainly come in handy should you lose your original passport. However, there is no guarantee that you’ll be approved for a second passport — it’s up to the State Department, which approves applications on a case-by-case basis. You will also need to send a duplicate passport request letter indicating why you need the second passport.

To apply for a second passport, you’ll need to fill out a form, submit a signed statement, provide a new passport photo, and send in your current passport. You’ll pay $130 for your second passport.
