A new teaser image on shopDisney reveals a “Star Wars” Loungefly mini backpack that will be released as part of the 2010s Disney100 Decades collection on November 20.
‘Star Wars’ Loungefly
The Loungefly features images inspired by the newest sequel “Star Wars” trilogy, including Rey and BB-8 in front of an orange landscape on the lowest of three pockets. Kylo Ren is pictured in a dark blue forest on the second image and someone is looking out over green mountains on the top. The rest of the backpack is black.
Another preview image for the 2010s collection features Buzz and Woody from “Toy Story 4” and Olaf from the “Frozen” films. Other films released in the decade that could potentially inspire merch include “Tangled,” “Brave,” “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Monsters University,” “The Muppets,” “Big Hero 6,” “Inside Out,” “Zootopia,” “Moana,” “Coco,” “Maleficent,” multiple live-action adaptations of Disney classics, and several Marvel films.
Each collection includes a Loungefly backpack, ear headband, MagicBand+, plush, and pin or pin set.
The 2000s collection released this week features items inspired by “The Princess and the Frog,” “Enchanted,” “The Emperor’s New Groove,” “Bolt,” and Pixar.
Future of Star Wars
Several “Star Wars” projects are currently in development. James Mangold (“Logan,” “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”) will be directing a film set before the Old Republic about the origins of the Force. Dave Filoni is set to direct a film that takes place between “The Mandalorian” and “The Force Awakens.” Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will direct a sequel taking place 15 years after “The Rise of Skywalker,” the last “Star Wars” film released in theaters.
“Star Wars” has also seen success with recent live-action shows on Disney+, starting with “The Mandalorian.” There have been two seasons of the show, followed by the spin-offs “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Ahsoka,” all set between “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
“Andor” season 1, set before “Star Wars: A New Hope” and focused on “Rogue One” character Cassian Andor, premiered in late 2022. Season 2 began filming in November, but filming paused due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes this summer.
Disney 100 Years of Wonder
The Walt Disney Company has been celebrating its 100th anniversary all year with Disney’s 100 Years of Wonder, or Disney100, across Disney Parks & Resorts. October 16, 2023, is the company’s actual 100th birthday.
The 100 Years of Wonder celebration began at Disneyland Resort with “Wondrous Journeys” at Disneyland — currently paused for holiday spectaculars — and “World of Color – ONE” at Disney California Adventure. There is a platinum Mickey statue (which initially had to be fixed because the Walt Disney quote on the base was incorrect) and a platinum Minnie statue in Disneyland.
In Florida, EPCOT has several new Disney100 offerings. At the Magic Eye Theater, guests can meet Mickey and Minnie in their platinum 100th anniversary outfits. Spaceship Earth lights up at night with a special Disney100 spectacle of light. There are also Disney100 decorations, a platinum Mickey statue just like the one in Disneyland, and a mural full of Disney characters. Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana” had its grand opening on October 16.
For the 100th anniversary, Hong Kong Disneyland unveiled a new Walt and Mickey statue, “Dream Makers,” inspired by the moment Walt dreamed up Disneyland. Disneyland Paris marked the day with a special opening ceremony and cavalcade.
Disney’s upcoming animated film “Wish” will honor 100 years of Disney with “legacy nods” to classic films. “Wish,” which uses a mix of 2D and 3D animation, will be released in theaters on November 22. Each song from the film will be released on Wednesdays leading up to the movie’s release.
“Once Upon A Studio” aired on ABC on October 15 after a premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and is now available on Disney+. The short film also uses a combination of 2D and 3D animation, along with live-action footage. Disney brought back more than 40 voice actors to reprise their roles and pulled from the archives to use dialogue from past actors like Robin Williams as the Genie.
