The “Nautilus” series originally produced for Disney+ has found a new home at AMC. Disney canceled the series this summer after it had been fully filmed.

According to Deadline, the series will air on AMC and AMC+ in 2024. It’s inspired by “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” by Jules Verne, which Disney previously adapted as a 1954 film starring James Mason and Kirk Douglas. The book and movie inspired now-defunct Disneyland and Walt Disney World attractions, as well as the Les Mystères du Nautilus walkthrough in Disneyland Paris and the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction in Tokyo DisneySea.
“’Nautilus’ is a big, sweeping drama that is sure to appeal to fans of our Anne Rice Immortal Universe and other buzzy and fan-forward series like ‘Orphan Black: Echoes’,” said Ben Davis, EVP of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios. “We are looking forward to bringing it to AMC+ and AMC as a special television event next year.”
The 10-part series was first announced in 2021 and began production in Australia in February 2022. It was described as an “origin story of the submarine” told from the perspective of Captain Nemo.
In the series, Nemo (Shazad Latif) is an Indian prince, who has been robbed of his family and birthright and is a prisoner of the East India Company. When he eventually sets sail on board the Nautilus with his crew, he’ll not only face his enemy and the forces at work that ruined his life but also discover a magical underwater world.
The show also stars Georgia Flood, Thierry Frémont, Pacharo Mzembe, Arlo Green, Tyrone Ngatai, Ling Cooper Tang, Andrew Shaw, Ashan Kumar, Céline Menville, and Kayden Price.
“Nautilus” was written and executive produced by James Dormer. It’s also executive-produced by Johanna Devereaux, Chris Loveall, Colleen Woodcock, and Daisy Gilbert. It is produced by Xavier Marchand’s Moonriver Studios and Anand Tucker’s Seven Stories. Michael Matthews was the lead director.
