Though the recently revealed “The Little Mermaid”-inspired Ursula tiki mug at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel won’t be available for purchase until October 18, guests who took part in the October 16 Trader Sam’s Mixology Seminar were able to take the mug back to their own caves with them.
Ursula Mug at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar
The mug appears as it does in the 1989 animated film that sparked the famed Disney Renaissance. Ursula uses the cauldron to craft potions and create illusions in the film, and though it also appears in the 2023 live-action version of “The Little Mermaid,” the Trader Sam’s mug is a closer visual match to the animated rendition.
Those who attended the mixology seminar were given a paper bag featuring a Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar graphic.
The mug itself comes enclosed inside a cardboard box and wrapped in a protective plastic bag.
The vibrant purple mug features the same ridged detailing around the rim as the cauldron from the 1989 version of “The Little Mermaid.” Claw-like details emerge from the top of the mug, and tentacles are wrapped around its handle.
Intricate detailing is carved at the base of the Ursula mug.
Polyps are depicted around the bowl of the mug and on the sides of its internal structure. These polyps are the captured souls of former merpeople, and they are seen near Ursula’s lair in the original film.
The Ursula mug also comes with a circular glow ball that illuminates its interior (at an additional cost). The ball emits numerous colors; below are photos of the ball inside of a cocktail and on its own.
The Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar logo is printed on the bottom of the mug.
The Ursula mug will be available for $75, plus an additional $6 if you wish to purchase the glow ball. The limited-time mug will only be available via mobile order through the Disneyland app, with orders starting as early as 6 a.m. PT on Wednesday, October 18. There is a limit of two per order.
Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar
Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar opened at Disneyland Hotel in 2011 and promptly became a popular destination for specialty cocktails and a quick bite to eat. Deriving its name from a character from the Jungle Cruise attraction, the venue is rich in theming and quality beverages, and thus, guests often face long wait times to enjoy the experience.
The bar received an East Coast counterpart when Trader Sam’s Grog Gotto opened at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World in 2015. Though aesthetically different in theming, the venues contain similar menus.
The well-realized tiki theming plays a large role in Trader Sam’s popularity. Merchandise based on and inspired by the bar has long been sold at Disney parks, with mugs similar to the new Ursula-inspired cup long being a popular item. Mugs styled after the venue’s most popular cocktails have been sold in the past, and the beloved Hatbox Ghost from the Haunted Mansion received a tiki-style makeover for a mug of his own in August 2023.
