We’re here to talk about one of Disney World’s most infamous snacks…the turkey leg!
Are they misunderstood by the masses? Or are they actually as disgusting as some people claim? Believe it or not, there are quite a few people out there who love turkey legs, and to this day, they’re still known as one of Disney’s most iconic snacks. But before you buy one…there are some things I need you to know!
No, They’re NOT Made of Emu
One of the most prevailing rumors about Disney World snacks is that turkey legs are made of emu meat. How else would they be that large?! Well, we’re prepared to shut this one DOWN. It’s simply not true.
Disney World’s turkey legs are massive because they come from tom turkey meat. Disney’s not lying to you about the ingredients (that would be illegal with the FDA and all), so you can rest assured that you’re actually eating turkey.
Bring Your Own Tupperware
When I worked at one of the stands where you could buy turkey legs, I got asked ALL THE TIME if I had plastic bags for storing leftovers. People tend to underestimate the sheer size of this snack and they assume that Disney is prepared with ways for them to wrap it up and take it to go.
Alas, that’s not how snack stands work you guys. If you really would like a plastic bag for storing the remainder of your turkey leg, you can head to a gift shop and ask for one there. Otherwise, you’re on your own! If you’re planning on eating part of a turkey leg on your next visit, it might be wise to bring your own Ziplocs or Tupperware — although, that would have to be a pretty big box to store this hefty snack.
They’re Harder to Find Than You Think
With popcorn stands wafting their tempting smells all over the park and frozen carts selling Mickey bars seemingly every 10 feet, you may think that it’s easy to find all the classic snacks in Disney World. But finding a turkey leg? It’s harder than you think!
Only select snack stands sell this giant carnivorous snack, and if you don’t know where to look, you might find yourself wandering aimlessly. Some of the locations that sell turkey legs include Liberty Square Market, Prince Eric’s Village Market, and Fife and Drum Tavern. Not all four parks have turkey legs either — currently, they’re only available in Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, as well as House of Blues in Disney Springs.
They’re MASSIVE.
People seriously underestimate the size of turkey legs when ordering them. We promise you that unless everyone in your family has massive appetites, you all won’t need your own individual legs.
These are a very shareable snack, and there’s so much smoky and salty flavor that you might not even want to finish it alone if you have room in your stomach. Trust us…start with one and you can always come back and order a second if it’s not enough.
