There is finally more news about the “Tiana” Disney+ series. Joyce Sherrí will be the show’s lead writer and director, Variety reports.
The musical animated series was announced in 2020 and originally scheduled for release in 2023. The release timeframe was later changed to 2024 and then removed entirely. The Walt Disney Animation Studios website just says it is “coming soon.”
Anika Noni Rose will reprise her role as Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog.”
The Disney+ series will follow Tiana as she “sets off for a grand new adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia, but a calling to her New Orleans past isn’t far behind.”
Joyce Sherrí is represented by Gersh, Untitled, and Del Shaw Moonves. She has most recently written for the Netflix horror miniseries “Midnight Mass.” She has written and directed such short films as “Beauty,” “Forever,” “Down, Down, Baby,” and “The Family Romance.” She won the 2020 Slamdance screenplay competition for “Sweet Sixteen” and was selected for the 2021 Sundance Institute Screenwriters Intensive.
The series will be produced by Nathan Curtis, and executive produced by Jennifer Lee and Stella Meghie. Meghie was previously attached as the writer and director.
Sherrí has a “Tiana” section on her website, but lists no further information at this time.
