A new retro EPCOT Center tee is available at Walt Disney World for fans of the park’s original 1982 iteration.
The EPCOT center tee can be found in Creations Shop, the flagship merchandise location of EPCOT.
EPCOT Center Tee – $29.99
The shirt is a heathered mustard yellow color, with Spaceship Earth on the chest. Behind the icon are white, blue, red, yellow, and black diagonal stripes.
“EPCOT CENTER” is at the top. The letters of “EPCOT” are white with blue shadows and an orange-red border. “CENTER” is just orange-red. To the left is “’82” in black and “Walt Disney World” is at the bottom.
EPCOT Center was the original name of the park when it opened on October 1, 1982. EPCOT is an acronym for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. The park’s name was later shortened and changed to lowercase as just Epcot. During the park’s reimagining over the past few years, it was renamed to EPCOT in uppercase.
EPCOT Reimagining
EPCOT is in the final stages of a years-long reimagining that has ushered in considerable alterations and significant additions since plans were revealed at D23 Expo 2019. Future World was divided into three neighborhoods: World Celebration, World Discovery, and World Nature. World Showcase retained its name.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, a trackless dark ride that is a clone of a Walt Disney Studios Park attraction, opened in the France Pavilion at World Showcase in 2021. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind debuted in the World Discovery neighborhood in mid-2022. Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is the last major part of the EPCOT reimagining and is set to open on October 16.
Zach Riddley, the Imagineer who oversaw the EPCOT reimagining, was recently promoted to Global Creative Strategy Executive for Walt Disney Imagineering.
Some elements of the reimagining have reportedly been canceled or indefinitely delayed, including the Play! Pavilion, “Mary Poppins” attraction, and Spaceship Earth overhaul. The previously planned festival pavilion was replaced with the new CommuniCore Hall and Plaza in World Celebration, which is scheduled to open in December. A new “Walt the Dreamer” statue will be installed at Dreamers Point behind Spaceship Earth.
An EPCOT Reimagined merchandise collection was recently released.
