Disney has been changing some business strategies recently.

CEO Bob Iger is working to get the company back on track financially, and we’ve heard about several business strategies being considered to accomplish that goal, such as the possibility of Disney selling ABC. But now, we’ve got new details about what they hope to do with ESPN!

According to the Sports Business Journal, Disney is hoping to find two partners as it attempts to sell a portion of ESPN. It’s believed that Disney only plans to sell 10% of ESPN, but this number is fluid.

In an ideal world, ESPN would be purchased partially by “a digital company, like Apple, and a mobile platform, such as Verizon, to go in together so it can leverage its sports assets with the best distribution channels.” It’s also likely that ESPN could go direct-to-consumer in 2025, and some “clear leaders” in that industry like Amazon or Apple might make for a profitable partnership.

There is certainly a significant amount of appeal to a partnership with Apple, because then Disney could have the EPSN app pre-installed on Apple devices. There would also be benefits to working with mobile companies like Verizon or T-Mobile. No matter which company is chosen, the partnership would likely take some time to develop, so this could be a slow process overall.
