Ever since Bob Iger returned to the company as CEO, Disney has been making some big business-changing decisions.
From a restructuring of the company’s organization to debating the possibility of selling TV assets, there are several options on the horizon for Disney. And now, Disney might be selling off another part of the company as well.
Seeking Alpha reports that The Walt Disney Company is in talks with a number of different partners about selling its streaming and television business in India.
According to Bloomberg, the company has already spoken to Indian billionaires Gautam Adani and Kalanithi Maran, who owns Sun TV Network. In addition to those possible buyers, the company has spoken to private equity firms and Reliance, run by Mukesh Ambani.
The possibilities include selling some of the assets, an outright sale, a joint venture, or other options. Disney’s Indian operations have suffered losses over the past year in part due to losing its streaming rights to air cricket, one of India’s most popular sports. In the third quarter of 2023, Disney also had a 24% decline in Disney+ Hotstar subscribers.
We’ll keep an eye on these developments and let you know if any deals are struck. Stay tuned to DFB for the latest news from The Walt Disney Company.
