If you’re traveling through Orlando International Airport soon, you may encounter some issues. Sure, flight delays happen, but you need to be aware of what’s going on when that’s the case.
Recently, one airline has been dealing with some major flight cancelations, so if you’re flying Spirit Airlines to Disney World today (October 21st) or over the next few days, your flight could be affected.
About 100 Spirit Airlines flights were canceled yesterday, October 20th, due to ongoing aircraft inspections, according to Tampa Bay News affiliate WTSP 10. At the time, Spirit notified customers with the following statement:
“While this action is being taken out of an abundance of caution, the impact to our network is expected to last several days as we complete the inspections and work to return to normal operations. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to take care of affected Guests. Our Guests are advised to monitor their email and check their flight status on spirit.com or the Spirit Airlines App before heading to the airport.”
A total of 25 planes need to be inspected, which could take days. According to WTSP 10, the Federal Aviation Administration stated that the inspection would cover the brackets on the planes’ airframes. The inspections are mandatory and will “look for signs of cracking around fasteners that attach pressure panels to beams on the planes’ airframes.”
Per FlightAware, as of the morning of October 21st, a total of 33 Spirit Airlines flights have been canceled at Orlando International Airport.
If you have a Spirit Airlines flight scheduled soon, you’ll want to keep an eye on the flight’s status very carefully on the Spirit Airlines website or through Spirit’s app. The airline has not yet made a statement as to how it’s dealing with compensation for passengers on the canceled flights, but we suggest you contact Spirit Airlines if your flight is affected.
We’ll keep an eye on the situation and keep you updated, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
