King Triton has gone missing from the Magic Kingdom. A statue of Ariel’s father can usually be found across from Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid, next to the Disney Vacation Club station. This summer, we’ve been cataloging the dirty state of the statue — until it was unexpectedly removed this week.

King Triton Statue Removed

We first noticed the unfortunate state of the statue back on July 10, when we took these photos.

His left hand was what caught our attention. The paint was cracked, peeling, and caked in dirt and grime.

We continued visiting Triton over the next several weeks, seeing no improvements.

The above photo was taken on September 8.

Other parts of the statue were also dirty and peeling, but nothing looked as bad as his hand.

Then, on September 9, Triton’s hand was clean!

The paint still needed to be fixed, but he no longer looked like he had stuck his hand into some mud.

For over a month, it looked like that was the end of Triton’s cleanliness story — until we visited Magic Kingdom on October 17 and saw the King was no longer presiding over his subjects.

The statue has been completely removed, leaving only some faded pavement and holes in the ground where he used to be.

Hopefully, this means Triton is getting the complete cleaning and repaint he deserves.

Cast Members do not know when the Triton statue will return.

We guess there’s just one problem left: How much we’re going to miss him.
