Scaffolding and construction walls have shifted during the ongoing refurbishment of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa at Walt Disney World. We’ve visited multiple times over the past few days to see how things are moving along.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Construction
Cranes surrounded by green portable barriers have appeared near the corner of the Big Pine Key and Boca Chica buildings for unspecified additional construction.
More green portable barriers are around the nearby porte-cochere. A white tarp covers the ground where two electric scissor lifts are staged for repainting efforts.
Both sides of the pathway to the main entrance of the resort have been walled up during construction.
Behind the walls are scaffolding.
Earlier this week, shingles were gone from this roof.
Within a few days, new shingles had been installed and some of the nearby scaffolding came down.
There are tunnels in the construction walls for guests to enter through.
More scaffolding is around the building to the left.
This scaffolding reaches the top of the tower on the corner, right next to the Monorail station.
Inside, we could see out the windows through the scaffolding to the ground below, where it looks like plants have been removed.
Looks like a crew member dropped their glove.
Here’s another view of the exterior refurbishment from inside.
On the other side of the Monorail, crews have laid a plywood path.
Nearby materials include steel beams and white panels.
This corner tower was also surrounded by scaffolding a few days ago.
But work quickly wrapped up and the scaffolding came down.
There are black patches where the scaffolding was attached to the tower, possibly to mark where touch-ups are still needed.
More scaffolding and a black chute reach to the top of this tower.
There are several platforms for roof access.
Construction walls still wrap around the building and we saw a plastic tarp on a low section of roof.
Earlier this week, green portable barriers were around this area. Stacks of concrete bricks were staged for foundation work.
New grass was planted and the white construction walls blocked off the area where the concrete bricks were visible.
From across the lagoon, we got another look at some scaffolding.
Narcoosee’s Construction
We also spotted two crew members working on the tower of Narcoosee’s, which is still open for dinner.
It looks like they were fixing up the roof shingles on the top of the tower.
The restaurant’s interior and exterior were previously refurbished during a months-long closure. It was closed again for updates just a few weeks ago.
A construction vehicle was also parked next to Narcoossee’s. Materials on the roof nearby point to more roof work.
Grand Floridian Lobby
All signs of construction have been removed from the resort’s main lobby, where crews were working on railings a few weeks ago. Construction wrapped up in September, but there were still some scrims on the upper floors.
The walls are gone and it appears guests are staying on the upper floors again.
A remodel of the Grand Floridian lobby is still planned but has been delayed to next year.
