It’s no secret that we have some favorite restaurants at Disney World.
Yes, we’ll go on and on about how Skipper Canteen in Magic Kingdom and Nomad Lounge in Disney’s Animal Kingdom are underrated and why you should ALWAYS stop by Wine Bar George in Disney Springs. Speaking of Disney Springs, though — there’s another restaurant here that we’ll always go back to — and we’re back again to try some new food!
That restaurant is Homecomin‘, and yep, we go there a lot. So when we found out about some new menu items there, we made a reservation to check them out. Here’s the thing — this restaurant rarely disappoints and — SPOILER ALERT — this time was no different.
We started with a new drink, the Hummingbird Cocktail for $17, which is made with banana cream rum, vanilla bean rum, muddled pineapple, blueberry and pineapple purees, and served with hummingbird cake pop. If that sounds good, well, IT WAS. If you’ve ever had the Hummingbird cake here, it tastes almost exactly like that.
Overall it’s also very smooth and you can’t really taste the alcohol in it. We also liked the cake pop — it was a nice touch for what is, essentially, a dessert drink. We will warn you, though, that this is a very sweet drink and we know some folks don’t like that. Also, mix it up really well or the banana flavor overpowers everything else.
We also ordered the Strawberry Fields Salad for $21, made with crispy prosciutto and fresh burrata cheese served on top of chopped romaine, mixed greens, strawberries, and red onion tossed in house-made maple balsamic dressing and drizzled with balsamic reduction.
Okay, stop everything, because this salad was INCREDIBLE. The burrata was so melty and creamy. The balsamic was sweet, but also added a nice acidity to the overall flavor. The fruit on this was fresh and juicy and balanced out the acidity of the tomatoes. That crispy prosciutto added saltiness and a crunchy texture. This was so bright and if you add a protein, it could easily be a hearty meal.
We also dug into Art’s Hot Chicken Sandwich for $21 to go with it. It’s made with a crispy-fried chicken breast tossed in a buffalo-style hot sauce and dressed with tangy slaw, B&B pickles, and a drizzle of icebox dressing. Now, look at it — this is a HEFTY sandwich. Like, bring a knife and fork to this baby.
We didn’t mind having to eat it with a fork, though, because it was good. The spicy is more of a “Disney spicy” (so not too much heat at all), but the acidity from the crispy slaw and the sweetness of the pickles cut that down. We would say that this sandwich is sharable if you’re not super hungry.
But we’re not done yet. We also ordered the Baby Back Ribs for $34. This is a full rack of ribs that is slow-smoked for 5 hours and then basted in a house-made sweet and spicy barbecue sauce. It’s served with fries and a broccoli and bacon salad.
First up, this is a LOT of food, but we were up for the challenge. The ribs were juicy and tender and literally fell off the bone. The sauce, though? It was such a great balance of sweet and savory. Even the fries were good. However, if we had a choice, we’d order Art’s Famous Fried Chicken over the ribs, but if you’re not in the mood for chicken, this is what you want — TRUST US.
The broccoli salad was a great accompaniment. The broccoli wasn’t overcooked, so it still retained some crunch. The mayo in it is light and we liked the saltiness that the bacon added.
Overall, everything we tried was excellent, and we remember why we keep coming back to Homecomin’ time and time again. The food here still holds up, even when it’s new, and we will happily keep sampling more of it as new menu items get added.
