When it comes to Disney food news, it’s been a HUGE week.
First, we had THOUSANDS of price increases happening at Disney World restaurants, including at the parks, the resorts, and Disney Springs. Even character dining has gone up. At the same time, we’re still trying to keep up with NEW eats, including some we just discovered at Harambe Market in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. So let’s head on over there and try them out!
Harambe Market is located near the Wildlife Express train that can take you to and from Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Conservation Station. It’s based on a typical East African marketplace with food inspired by that region. The menu features rice bowls and salads, but we’re here to try the new Beef and Lamb Kofta Pita for $13.49. It’s a House-made Beef and Lamb Kofta with a Tzatziki Sauce, Chermoula, and House-made Chips.
First, let’s start with the house-made chips. If you’ve had the house-made chips at other Disney World restaurants, these are basically the same, although they have more seasoning with a hint of barbecue flavor. Overall, though, they’re just a standard kettle chip, though.
Let’s get to the pita — it was kinda’ tough in spots but soft in others, so we think it was toasted more on one side than the other. However, the first bite of the beef and kofta was impressive — it was so juicy. Our biggest disappointment, though, is that we were hoping for a bit more spice, but that flavor was cut down by the sauce and vegetables.
You do get fresh flavors with the cucumber and tomato, which also gives it a good overall crunch, balancing well with the texture of the meat and pita. However, the tzatziki sauce was more like sour cream — we didn’t get a big cucumber or garlic flavor from it. You can also taste the chermoula, which we think was cooked with the beef. The rest of the seasoning on the beef did work for us and the flavor reminded us of a mild chorizo.
We thought the price was a bit high, but you do get a lot of beef and a lot of chips, so it is filling. A Cast Member did tell us we could order this without the chips (for the same price, though) or even substitute the chips for rice.
We also tried the new Mango-Passion Fruit Cheesecake for $5.99. This is a Mango-Passion Fruit Cheesecake with Mango Jelly on a Coconut Crust with Whipped Icing. We’ll warn you now — this is a thinner cheesecake, meaning it won’t hold up well in the Florida heat for long.
However, the cheesecake has a great flavor that is smooth and creamy, without just a touch of tang. We also loved the passionfruit and mango, which added more tartness plus we LOVE that Disney decided to do a whipped topping over a buttercream frosting — but it will also melt fast.
That crust, though, y’all — it MELTS in the mouth. It first tasted like a graham cracker crust to us, but once you chew on it, you get a bit of its coconut flavor, which is a nice surprise. The portion size is PERFECT for the price, but we loved it so much, that we would TOTALLY want it to be bigger — yep, we wanted MORE.
Overall, this is a nice treat that isn’t overly sweet. We will be ordering this one again.
Both of these new eats are available NOW at Harambe Market, so head on over there when you get a chance to check them out. And stay tuned to DFB for more reviews.
