REVIEW: The Three Items You Should Get (and Two You Can Skip) at Disney’s Newest Restaurant

Disney hotels are expanding, and with them, we’ve been getting NEW restaurants!

View from the Villas at the Disneyland Hotel

We’ll soon be getting updates on the East Coast at Disney’s BoardWalk and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, but now we’ve got an addition to the West Coast as well. The Disneyland Hotel just recently added new villas, but that’s not the only change! We stopped by to check out a new restaurant, and we’re here to share our full review.

Atmosphere

The Lounge is a new addition, located on the bottom floor of the Disneyland Hotel, next to Goofy’s Kitchen.

Here’s where you’ll find it!

The atmosphere here is really dark and moody, with lots of black accents and deep colors.

Inside The Lounge

There are chairs and couches spread throughout, but there’s also a bar area where you can sit if you’d prefer. The menu here has some wines and beers, as well as a variety of cocktails.

Bar area

The lighting in here is low and dramatic, with lamps and faux candles spread throughout the room and on the tables.

Seating

Now let’s see what’s on the menu!

Menu

The menu is filled with traditional lounge-type fare, including chicken wings, truffle fries, burgers, salads, and pizza. You can also order Steak Frites or Toasted Quinoa and Baby Kale. For dessert, they serve a Molten Chocolate Cake.

The Lounge Menu

As we mentioned previously, there are plenty of options for those who would like to imbibe, including an array of Specialty Cocktails. They’ve got traditional choices like an Old Fashioned and a Martini, as well as the Bramble, Aviation, Derby, and Hemingway Daiquiri.

Cocktail Menu

They also have a pretty thorough wine and beer menu, with sparkling, white, rosé, red, and drafts.

Wine and Beer too!

Now it’s time to place an order!

Drink

We started out with a cocktail from the specialty list. We got the Bramble, which is $16 and made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, lime, agave, mint, blackberry, and Chambord.

It’s really pretty!

It comes out as this really pretty pinkish-red shade, and it’s topped with mint and blackberries as a garnish. It’s a very fruity drink with a prominent blackberry flavor. The mint is reminiscent of a mojito.

We’d order it again!

We really loved the blackberry garnish, and this is a drink we’d definitely try again. Very refreshing!

Eats

For our eats, we ordered a few different items to try. First up we started with an appetizer, the Chicken Wings. These are $22 and made with a signature dry rub, served with house pickled carrots and celery, alongside Roquefort blue cheese.

Chicken Wings

These were super crispy and nicely seasoned, with some very juicy chicken. The blue cheese is VERY strong though, so if you’re not a fan of that flavor, we recommend asking for ranch on the side instead.

Look at those wings!

Next up, we got some entrees! We ordered the Turkey Club, the Wagyu Cheeseburger, and the Steak Frites.

First is the Turkey Club, which is $22 and made with slow-roasted turkey breast, bacon, avocado, tomato, lettuce, and sourdough. It’s served with a side of french fries.

Turkey Club

The fries served on the side are steak fries, and they’re nice and crunchy on the outside with a soft inside. A little seasoned, but not overpowering. The turkey club itself is filled VERY generously (we’re talkin’ a LOT of turkey!). The produce is nice and fresh and the bacon was fantastic — thick and flavorful. The cheese was our only complaint because it tasted like a slice of Kraft singles.

Look how thick that sandwich is!

The Wagyu Burger is $26 and topped with a house-made spread and cheddar cheese on a brioche bun. It’s also served with french fries, which were the same as the Turkey Club’s fries.

Wagyu Burger

It comes with a side of ranch as well, and this was GOOD ranch. It’s house-made and paired perfectly with the fries.

The burger itself was especially delicious. The bun was nicely toasted and the house sauce reminded us of a Thousand Island dressing. The produce was fresh and crispy, and the wagyu was melt-in-your-mouth yummy. Very juicy!

Inside the burger

The Steak Frites come with a New York Strip, french fries, and a demi-glace. You can order this entree for $42 — it’s the priciest thing on the menu.

Steak Frites

These fries are thinner and crispier and topped with parmesan, and they were absolutely excellent!

Steak Frites fries

The green beans served on the side of the steak are fresh and have a nice crunch — not soggy at all. The steak itself was nice and did the trick for a steak craving, but it’s not quite as good as others we’ve had on property.

Inside the steak

After our three entrees, we rounded off our meal with a dessert! The only dessert on the menu here is the Molten Chocolate Cake for $15. It’s topped with hot fudge, whipped cream, almonds, and Luxardo cherries.

Molten Chocolate Cake

And boy, was this thing RICH. It’s almost too much. The sauce is more of a chocolate sauce than a hot fudge, and it’s absolutely drenched in it. Our cake wasn’t particularly molten either, just served warm. Overall, it was fairly good but didn’t knock our socks off.

Inside the cake

Of course, the cake definitely gets bonus points for the Mickey whipped cream!

So what do we think of The Lounge overall?

Overall

This would be a great spot to stop if you want to grab a bite in a relaxed, low-key atmosphere. Some of the eats we tried were particularly delicious, including the chicken wings, the burger, and the fries. We would definitely go back and get those again, along with the drink!

The Lounge

You won’t find the best steak or dessert here, but the things they do well, they do REALLY well. They also offer a Magic Key discount here, and they’ll validate your parking if you drive to the hotel.

Nosh or Not?

Head to Disneyland Hotel for a meal at The Lounge if…

  • You want a sit-down experience in a relaxed atmosphere. It’s not too loud or overwhelming here, and the ambiance is chill and laid-back. If you love a good lounge, then this is your place!
  • You’re a big burger and fries fan. We really enjoyed the burger and the fries here, and you can also try out the truffle fries as an appetizer (though we didn’t order those this trip). If you want something simple and American to eat, The Lounge has some good choices.
  • You’re a Magic Key holder. Some of Disneyland Resort’s lounges and restaurants don’t offer a Magic Key discount, but this one does! A great way to save a little money if you’re a regular visitor.

Skip this spot if…

  • You want a really phenomenal steak. As we mentioned above, this wasn’t the best steak we’ve ever eaten in Disneyland Resort, so if that’s your prime reason for dining, you may want to choose elsewhere.
  • Dessert is a priority. There’s only one option on the menu here and it’s not for everyone. Unless you’re a die-hard chocolate lover, you might want to get your sweet treat from another spot.

The Lounge

That’s a wrap on our visit to The Lounge! Stay tuned to DFB for the latest restaurant news and updates, as well as all the reviews you need ahead of your trip.
