Suzanne Somers Passes Away
The news was shared by Somers’ longtime publicist R. Couri Hay, who shared a statement to People magazine on behalf of the actress’ family.
Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years.
Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family. Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved hear dearly.
Somers is likely most recognized for her role as Christmas “Chrissy” Snow in “Three’s Company,” which aired from 1977-1984 on ABC. She also appeared as herself in an episode of ABC’s “Full House” in 1993, and was a contestant on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” in 2015.
In addition to her film and television work, as well as her fitness empire, Somers also took part in various Disney-related projects.
Somers appeared as herself in two episodes of “The Magical World of Disney” in 1978 and 1989, the latter of which being the Disney-MGM Studios grand opening. Her handprints can be found today in the cement in front of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway (formerly The Great Movie Ride).
Also during this time, Somers appeared as the Director in “Totally Minnie,” a television special that originally aired in 1988, in which a nerd visits the “Minnie Mouse Center for the totally un-hip” and learns how to dance, dress, and be himself.
In 1996, Somers hosted the televised “Walt Disney World Very Merry Christmas Parade.”
At the Disney Parks, Somers was mentioned in the former attraction The Timekeeper, which resided in the current home of Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor in Magic Kingdom from 1994 to 2006.
In a section of the show, a visual of a woman snorkeling by the audience with some sort of underwater apparatus is shown onscreen. The Timekeeper, voiced by Robin Williams, ad-libs the joke, “There goes Suzanne Somers, pulled by a blender fish.”
