Walt Disney started the company in 1923, and it’s brought us so much magic since. Disney has done a lot this year to celebrate the anniversary, but there’s another surprise coming for those living in Chicago that’s only happening this weekend!

Walt Disney’s childhood home will be opened to the public this weekend, Saturday, October 14, and Sunday, October 15, from 12-4PM as part of Open House Chicago.

The Hermosa home was built for $800 by Walt Disney’s father in 1901. Walt Disney was homeschooled, allowing his creativity to flourish. Rey Colon, Walt Disney Birthplace project director, said, “Walt Disney was an example that, you know, if you come from humble beginnings, if you work hard, you follow your dreams. You could change the world,” according to ABC 7.

Colon also shared that the Disneys were very active in the community, and involved in multiple businesses and church. This is the first time the house has been open to the public to see and walk through.
