Here’s the Bad News About EPCOT’s New Moana Attraction

You might be thinking, “Bad news?! How is that possible? It’s a NEW EPCOT attraction!” To be fair, we had a BLAST at Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana. This new addition to the grand EPCOT transformation is fully welcomed by us here at the Disney Food Blog. In fact, we recommend you go and check it out on your next trip to EPCOT!

It’s a beautiful attraction!

But, hey, nobody’s perfect! Every Disney attraction, no matter how much we love it, has a few flaws. Now that we’ve experienced Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana several times in Disney World, we feel confident enough to come forward with our only small complaint about the attraction. If you’re planning to check it out this winter, you might want to be prepared for one thing.

Disney’s new Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana experience is technically a walkthrough attraction, a.k.a. a Disney-themed exploration trail that allows guests to play with magical, living water. There are all kinds of water fountains, water jets, and other interactive elements. It’s a LOT of fun, and the best part is that you don’t have to get wet if you don’t want to (we see you, poncho-on-Kali-River-Rapids-wearers).

She’s so beautiful!

Before we go and give you the bad news, let’s lead with more good news. It’s a lot of fun finding all the Moana-inspired elements in this attraction, including some familiar characters and details carved into the rocks and waterways. Plus, it’s just plain fun to make big waves with your arms. Playing with water is FUN, okay? That’s not the problem here. Well, actually, that IS the problem. Here’s why.

Journey of Water is FUN!

It doesn’t happen often, but cooler weather does actually exist in Orlando. Yes, even Floridians own a few pairs of pants, and they come out at least a few times most winters. Sure, it’s probably not Arctic-level cold, but it can get chilly in Disney World! Do you see where we’re going here?

Check out these splash pads!

If you’re wearing a winter jacket and a hat, you probably don’t want to go and frolic around in a splash pad or get splashed by incoming waves. There’s a reason that rides like Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain historically end up with shorter wait times in the winter. Unfortunately, those interactive water elements don’t come with heated water, so unless you’re feeling brave, you probably won’t be able to fully enjoy Journey of Water when it’s cold outside.

Kakamora water feature

Of course, you’re still welcome to go and explore the trail year-round; we’re just pointing out that it’s not as fun to dodge water as it is to fully embrace it. But hey, you’ve got all spring, summer, and fall to fully enjoy this spot! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.
