The Disney Magic – The Ship That Started It All

The Disney Magic was the very first ship of the Disney Cruise Line fleet. She set sail on her maiden voyage on July 30, 1998 from Port Canaveral, Florida. The Disney Magic was built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy. Her exterior design was inspired by the grand ocean liners of the early 20th century, including the RMS Queen Mary. With her two funnels and black hull, the Disney Magic evokes a sense of nostalgic elegance.

At 84,000 gross tons and 964 feet long, the Disney Magic has 875 staterooms across 11 passenger decks. She has a guest capacity of 2,700 passengers along with 945 crew members. Her cruising speed is 22 knots. The interior of the Disney Magic is decorated in an elegant Art Deco style. Sweeping curves, marble floors, brass accents, and ornate ceilings create a luxurious atmosphere. One of the most stunning spaces is the 3-story atrium lobby, featuring a bronze statue of Helmsman Mickey.

For dining, the Disney Magic features Lumiere’s Restaurant, Animator’s Palate, Parrot Cay, and the more exclusive Palo. Family entertainment includes original Broadway-style shows at the Walt Disney Theatre, first-run movies at the Buena Vista Theatre, and deck parties. The Disney Magic underwent major renovations in 2013 and 2015, adding new restaurants, kids clubs, and entertainment venues. The Disney Wonder – Full of Nostalgic Charm

The Disney Wonder debuted in 1999 as the second ship of the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Her maiden voyage was on August 15, 1999. Like her sister ship the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder was built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. However, her interior design takes inspiration from the Art Nouveau style rather than Art Deco. Beautiful curved shapes, brass accents, and ornate patterns create an atmosphere of vintage luxury.

At 84,000 gross tons, the Disney Wonder is identical in size to the Disney Magic. She hosts 2,700 passengers in her 877 staterooms. The Wonder has the same exterior profile as the Magic, with two funnels and a black hull. For dining, the Wonder features Triton’s Restaurant, Animator’s Palate, Parrot Cay, and Palo. Broadway-style shows take place in the Walt Disney Theatre and new movies play in the Buena Vista Theatre.

In 2016, the Disney Wonder underwent an extensive renovation. New additions included Marvel Super Hero Academy, Frozen adventures, and dining experiences like Tiana’s Place. The Disney Wonder currently sails to Alaska, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico, and through the Panama Canal. Her nostalgic, vintage design makes her a passenger favorite.

The Disney Dream – Innovation and Technology

After over a decade of just two ships, Disney Cruise Line expanded their fleet with the Disney Dream in 2011. This was the first of two new larger ships for Disney. The Disney Dream was built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. At 129,690 gross tons, she is much larger than the original Disney ships. 1,250 staterooms accommodate 4,000 passengers along with 1,458 crew members.

A major innovation of the Disney Dream is her AquaDuck water coaster, the first ever on a cruise ship. This 765-foot-long waterslide loops out over the edge of the ship and is a huge hit with kids and kids at heart. The Disney Dream introduced new dining concepts including Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden, Royal Palace, and adults-only Palo and Remy. New entertainment venues include Buena Vista Theatre and Walt Disney Theatre. Since her maiden voyage on January 26, 2011, the Disney Dream has sailed 3-4 night itineraries to the Bahamas and the Caribbean from Port Canaveral. In 2023, she began sailing in Europe as well.

The Disney Fantasy – Sister Ship with Magic to Spare

The Disney Fantasy debuted in 2012 as the sister ship to the Disney Dream. Built by Meyer Werft in Germany, she shares the same design and layout as her predecessor. At 129,690 gross tons, the Disney Fantasy boasts 1,250 staterooms with a 4,000 passenger capacity. She incorporates all of the same innovative amenities as the Disney Dream. The Disney Fantasy set sail on her maiden voyage on March 31, 2012.

She alternated Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries with the Disney Dream from Port Canaveral. New entertainment additions on the Disney Fantasy include Wishes, an original Broadway-style musical, and Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular, based on the animated classic. Like the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy features elegant Art Nouveau-inspired interiors, the exhilarating AquaDuck waterslide, and a wide array of dining and entertainment.

The Disney Wish – All Wishes Come True

In 2022, Disney Cruise Line expanded their fleet with the magical Disney Wish. This brand-new ship incorporates innovative technology and enchanting experiences. The Disney Wish was built at the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Germany. At 144,000 gross tons, she is slightly larger than the previous two ships. 1,254 staterooms accommodate 4,000 passengers.

A huge highlight of the Disney Wish is her AquaMouse water ride, featuring 760 feet of winding water tubes and show scenes based on Mickey Mouse cartoons. Other new experiences include Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge, Marvel Super Hero Academy, and Frozen and Moana themed dining. The beautiful three-story atrium is inspired by Cinderella’s castle, with a magical chandelier, floating wishing stars, and fairytale-themed statues. The Grand Hall stage hosts original Broadway-caliber productions. The Disney Wish had her maiden voyage on July 14, 2022. She sails 3- and 4-night Bahamian cruises from Port Canaveral, bringing to life the wishes of Disney fans of all ages.

Coming Soon – The Disney Treasure and Disney Adventure

The growth of Disney’s cruise fleet continues with two more ships on the horizon – the Disney Treasure and Disney Adventure. The Disney Treasure will debut in late 2024. At 144,000 gross tons, she will be a sister ship to the Disney Wish. Her design will be inspired by travel and exotic destinations from Disney films. Following in 2025 is the Disney Adventure, also at 144,000 gross tons.

She will be the eighth ship for Disney Cruise Line, continuing the tradition of family fun and magical storytelling on the high seas.
