Since our last update on construction progress at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, we’ve seen some new brick work and cobblestone paving details added to the queue.
Cobblestone Paving Details Added to Queue Area
What once was solid concrete path for Splash Mountain is currently undergoing a major transformation.
Construction workers were hard at work on this set of stairs into the work area, likely access stairs for the crew.
The brick-edged cobblestone pathway is currently laid out on the right side of the image above. To the left, the concrete base underneath the cobblestones is prepped and ready.
Once all the cobblestones and brick work are laid out, a loose concrete will be spread to fill between the stones or a fine sand mixed with a binder will be brushed into the small cracks between the stones to hold them all in place and create an even surface for guests to walk on..
The prep work leads all the way up to the barn door. More bricks are being laid to continue edging the entire area.
Hardscaping Added to Splashdown Area
In a recent construction update, we saw crews install lots of new greenery to this area, visible from the walkways around Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Now, some overgrown, old plants have been removed and new hardscaping has been added to the area. In the image above, you can see the hardscaping on the left side of the photo, just below the staircase and around the flume area in the foreground at the bottom of the image. Compare it to the image below that we took a little over a week ago in the same area, where you can see lots of larger greenery grown up in this area.
The overall new look is very clean compared to our photos from last week. As the new plants grow, the area will likely be cultivated to look a little wild to match the concept art.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
The “Princess and the Frog” inspired retheme of Splash Mountain was first announced in 2020, and the name Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was revealed in 2022.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure picks up after the events of “The Princess and the Frog.” In 1927, Tiana founded the Tiana’s Foods co-ops, which is located in a salt mine, where cultivators grow crops along the waters. During Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Tiana and alligator Louis venture into the bayou to find animal friends. They’re preparing a special Mardi Gras celebration for the people of New Orleans.
