We’re dropping by to give you a food review on our most recent trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. (Tower of Terror fans, did you see what we did there?)
When riding those thrill rides all morning, you’re likely to work up a big appetite. There are plenty of quick-service restaurants to choose from at Hollywood Studios. Today, we’re back at one that fills our stomachs and leaves us happy. Let’s take a look to see if this restaurant is right for you on your next Disney trip.
Atmosphere
When you head down Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood Studios, you’ll find Sunset Ranch Market. This is a collection of different quick-service restaurants.
Today, we’re heading to Fairfax Fare. Here you can enjoy a hearty meal in the style of a California outdoor market while you hear the distant screams of guests on an elevator ride gone wrong.
As for eating, you’ll want to be aware that there is only outdoor seating available. There are picnic tables with benches that are covered by umbrellas and some under an open-air cover. The seating is shared with the other restaurants as well, so during peak meal times you’ll find this area busy.
Menu
Here’s a look at the menu. You can see they have 4 entrees to choose from.
There are also 2 plant-based options to pick from as well as one dessert.
You’ll find your usually beverages here including fountain drinks, bottled water, milk, coffee and tea.
For those of you who are 21 and up, you can select from a few different beers.
Eats
You’ll find that the entrees come in waffle bowls. We set out to try a few different bowls and the dessert to let you know if this is worth a stop on your next Disney trip.
We’re starting with the Barbecued Beef Brisket Bowl. This is Braised Beef tossed in Barbecue Sauce and topped with Pickled Jalapeños, Red Onion, Bacon, and Corn Chips, served on top of House-made Queso Sauce and Mashed Potatoes in a Waffle Bowl.
For $15.29, you get a large portion of food. However, our dish only had two thin pieces of brisket, which was disappointing. The dish was heavy on the mashed potatoes. The corn chips added some texture to the dish to balance out the creamy potatoes.
The brisket was covered in sauce, and it was chewy and gamey. The potatoes were seasoned well, and you’ll find pieces of potato skin in them. The queso was a nice addition to the meal and the relish gave it a little spice. We wish there had been more beef to balance out the dish.
Next, we tried the Buffalo Chicken Bowl. This bowl has Chicken Breast Nuggets tossed in Buffalo Sauce and topped with Coleslaw, served on Mashed Potatoes.
This bowl is $14.49. Now, we’ll start off by saying this one was our reporter’s favorite. If you are a fan of buffalo sauce, you might know that at Disney World, it’s hard to find a buffalo item that not only tastes like buffalo but has heat. This dish is the exception. It does come with a kick, so be warned and have that water ready.
We appreciate how much meat is in this bowl. Unlike the brisket bowl, we felt like there was a great balance of meat and potatoes. The chicken was juicy, but not overly saucy with buffalo. The coleslaw did help cool down the chicken and added a nice texture.
For our final entree, we tried the Plant-based Soba Noodle Salad Bowl. This one has Chilled Soba Noodles, Edamame, Red Cabbage, Red Peppers, Shredded Carrots, Celery, and Green Onions tossed in Yakisoba Sauce served in a Waffle Bowl.
This was the cheapest bowl at $13.49. You can add plant-based chicken for an additional $1. This wasn’t our favorite of the dishes, but mostly because we were missing those potatoes.
The noodles were a little chewy, and we were lacking some spice overall. If you’re looking for something unique that’s also vegan, this could be a good option.
Now we needed something sweet. We were ready to dig into the Enchanted Rose. This dessert is a Dark Chocolate Mousse with a taste of Blackcurrant and Morello Cherry-Chocolate Shortbread Cookie, Whipped Cookies ‘n Cream Fluff, and gilded Chocolate-covered Cacao Nibs.
This dessert was exactly what we wanted it to be. It was rich and chocolatey. We loved the creaminess of the mousse. It was also not overly sweet due to the dark chocolate component.
Our reporter loved the shortbread cookie base and wished there was more of it. The cherry flavor is present but it is very light so if you aren’t a cherry fan, don’t let that stop you. If you are a fan of chocolate and rich desserts, this one is worth it for only $5.79.
Nosh or Not
You should hit up this quick-service restaurant if…
- You are looking for a hearty meal. These bowls are heavy and can fill you up easily.
- You are in a rush. This place has mobile ordering and is a great option for grab-and-go.
- You are a meat and potatoes kind of person. The menu is narrow here, but if you love meat and potatoes, this is a great option for you.
You should drop in somewhere else if…
- You want indoor seating. If you want to escape the heat or the rain, you’ll want to skip this restaurant.
- You are looking for something light or on the healthier side. Unfortunately, you won’t find that at Fairfax Fare.
- You have a large party who all want different things. The menu is small and if you have several people in your party, they might not want meat and potatoes.
Overall
Fairfax Fare does their small menu well — meat and potatoes in a waffle bowl. Although, we are still confused by the waffle bowl. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a quick option that will fill you up, this is great. We do recommend if you are planning on eating here, mobile order ahead of time. It can get pretty busy around here and mobile ordering can eliminate you waiting for a while.
However, if this doesn’t sound like something you’d love, there are other GREAT options for quick-service restaurants in Studios. For example, check out ABC Commissary or Woody’s Lunchbox.
