Grab those snacks, DFB readers; you’re about to be VERY hungry after reading this post!
The 2023 EPCOT Festival of the Holidays has officially begun, and there are so many snacks to try, shows and entertainment to watch, souvenirs to buy, and a beloved cookie stroll to complete. We’re here to walk you through the whole thing so you don’t get overwhelmed, and we’re heading over to Refreshment Outpost to tell you everything you need to know about this year’s offerings.
Menu
There are only two food items at Refreshment Outpost this year, and they were also available last year — the Raspberry Dole Whip and Peanut Stew. But there are four NEW drinks on the menu as well!
But is this snack spot as good as it was last year? We’re about to find out!
Eats
First up, we grabbed the Peanut Stew, which is made of sweet potatoes, mustard greens, and roasted peanuts for $5.25. It’s also plant-based!
Where to START?! This dish is FANTASTIC! It’s got a creamy peanut flavor, lots of potatoes, and makes for a nice, hearty stew. The rice was perfectly cooked, but we do have one warning about this dish. It is SPICY! Like, not just “Disney-spicy,” but actually spicy.
The peanuts are seasoned well, the dish has a fantastic flavor, the sweet potatoes provide a great texture, the mustard greens give it a great crunch, and the rice helps cut the heat. Got all that? Basically, it is delicious. DO NOT MISS IT! This one even made our best-of-the-fest list again this year.
Of course, we also had to grab the Raspberry Dole Whip! It’s available for $6.50.
As you may expect from a raspberry-flavored Disney treat, this one had a strong artificial raspberry flavor. It’s very tart, but that tartness balances the sweet flavor of Dole Whip, so you aren’t blasted with a mouth full of sour flavor all at once. This comes in a huge portion and can be ordered in a cup or cone. It’s not the most revolutionary Dole Whip treat we’ve ever had, but if you like raspberry treats, give it a try!
OVERALL
Most may come here for the Dole Whip, but PLEASE stay for the Peanut Stew! When we tell you this plant-based dish is a hidden gem, we mean it. We cannot recommend this booth enough; it’s well worth trying if you’re looking for a spicy, flavorful new dish to try. That’s it for Refreshment Outpost, but there’s so much more to discover at this festival!
