Who doesn’t like to break the rules every once in a while?
Life can be inundated with rules — for practically every aspect of life we have to follow the rules. Disney World is no exception, having several rules of its own. From unspoken rules to ones that are clearly laid out, the rigidity of the Disney law can be ever-present on your Disney World vacation. HOWEVER, Disney World also allows the opportunity to break rules that you may have in your everyday lives!
The Most Magical Place on Earth is a place you can go to get away from life’s worries and, of course, its rules! Here are seven rules that you can break only at Disney World!
Eating Kids Meals
Don’t have much of an appetite? Don’t be ashamed to order a kid’s meal! While this might be taboo to some in the real world, adults can order kids’ meals for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Children-friendly food such as chicken nuggets and mac ‘n’ cheese are found at every establishment and are allowed to be ordered by adults. These are super easy to purchase at quick-service locations but be advised that some table-service locations could bring you larger portions at an adult price.
Throwing Diet To The Wind
You’re on vacation, so feel free to treat yourself! From the tasty comfort food of Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ to the delicious cookies at Gideon’s Bakehouse, Disney World has no shortage of delicious options. Grab as many dining reservations as your heart desires and indulge yourself in some top-notch cuisine — we won’t tell your dietitian, we promise!
Forgoing Personal Space
When the pandemic started, social distancing became the social norm, even at the Disney Parks. However, if you’ve been recently, you’ll notice that the whole social distancing thing isn’t really in effect anymore. In fact, the crowds have gotten to chaotic levels. From long queues with little to no personal space to shoulder-to-shoulder traffic when walking from A to B, there aren’t many places more packed than Disney World. While honoring personal space is a definite unspoken (and sometimes spoken) rule in the real world, it’s a totally different experience at the Walt Disney World resort.
Suspension of Disbelief
One of the best things about going to Disney World as an adult or parent is the ability to unlock that childhood wonder all over again. Part of that is meeting some of your favorite characters. The suspension of disbelief is REAL. That’s the real Mickey Mouse/character and magic is all around. Gone are the problems of the real world when you find yourself at Disney World, and that’s ok!
Breaking Fashion Rules
You wouldn’t wear Minnie ears out and about (normally) in your daily life, but at Disney World that’s totally appropriate! From outlandish headwear to matching t-shirts, Disney World gives guests the opportunity to mostly dress how they want without judgment. You can even dress up in costumes on non-Halloween days in some instances! Without having to worry about the fashion police, Disney World is the perfect place to let your Disney fandom shine in your clothing sans judgment.
Eating at a Restaurant Owned by a Mouse
It’s typically not apropos to eat at a restaurant owned by a rodent, but at Disney, it’s very encouraged! Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort can be a hard reservation to come by, and for good reason. This restaurant serves all-you-care-to-enjoy breakfast and dinner while allowing guests to meet Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto. With constantly improving American cuisine, close proximity to Magic Kingdom, and an unforgettable character dining experience, Chef Mickey’s is a standout, certainly when it comes to restaurants owned by mice. (And let’s not forget about PizzeRizzo, run by the wise-cracking rat pal of The Muppets.)
Tolerating the Worst Unpleasantries
Let’s face it — you paid a ton of money to get you and your family to Disney World. Now is not the time to be ultra picky, so you tolerate certain unpleasantries for the sake of riding elusive attractions and getting to see incredibly shows and experiences. It’s fair to say you’ll put up with more at Disney World than you would perhaps at home. That could include making treks in stormy weather (which happens a lot in Central Florida), pushing through tired legs and tantrums, dealing with soaked clothes, accepting blisters, being patient with large crowds, or even dropping more money than budgeted for for meals and gifts. We do A LOT to make our Disney World vacations amazing and with that obviously comes sacrifice. The best thing you can do is to be prepared for anything and everything before you go.
