Be Prepared for These Disney World Ride CLOSURES in 2024

Even though we would like to experience EVERYTHING Disney World has to offer every trip, it’s a nearly impossible feat.

Cinderella Castle

From its sheer size to limited seasonal offerings, Disney World challenges its guests with too much of a good time. For most, it takes MULTIPLE long trips to Disney World to experience everything the resort has to offer. Unfortunately, the challenge becomes even greater when you factor in closures.

Even when you plan that perfect Disney World trip, you are always susceptible to an ambush by closures and refurbishments. That’s where we can help! While closure dates aren’t always made available well in advance, here are a few ride and attraction closures you should be prepared for in 2024.

Splash Mountain

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

This one is kind of a given, taking into account that Splash Mountain is permanently closed. With that said, the mountain has undergone retheming changes and will reopen next year as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The new attraction is slated to open in late 2024 at Magic Kingdom, but so far that’s all we know regarding its opening date. If you have a trip planned before the fall and winter of 2024, you should still expect this brand-new ride to be closed.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

Not only should you expect Voyage of the Little Mermaid in Disney’s Hollywood Studios to be closed in 2024, but you may want to prepare yourself for it never reopening. While nothing official has been announced, this The Little Mermaid stage show has been closed since 2020 with minimal hints of reopening. Making Voyage of the Little Mermaid’s future even murkier is the absence of an official attraction page on Disney World’s website. We’re betting we’ll have just as much difficulty experiencing this attraction in 2024 as we did in years prior.

  Country Bears Jamboree

Country Bears in Frontierland

It was announced at this year’s Destination D23 that Country Bears Jamboree in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom will be getting a makeover in 2024The new act will include the bears singing their usual songs in new country, rockabilly, and bluegrass styles with some Nashville inspiration. The new show also promises a rockabilly style of “Bare Necessities”. While we know the change is set for 2024, we don’t know when just yet. We’ll be sure to keep you updated when the closing and reopening dates are released!

Water Park Rides

Summit Plummet

The Disney World water parks have been operating as a one-on, one-off package for a while now and that is expected to continue into 2024. Right now, Blizzard Beach is open but will likely close next year to give way to Typhoon LagoonIt goes without saying (but we’ll say it anyway) that when one water park is closed, those rides and attractions will be completely inaccessible during your trip. When we have concrete closing and opening dates for each water park in 2024, we will be sure to relay those dates.

Outdoor Rides During Inclement Weather

Rainy Day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Bad weather doesn’t always ruin a Disney World Trip. After all, storms in Central Florida are fairly commonplace. However, sometimes it can get so bad that Disney has to take action and close outdoor attractionsIf you find yourself at Disney World during hurricane season or in the middle of a lightning storm, you should expect ride complications during your trip. This is not only a 2024 tip, but a general rule of thumb for years to come.

Other Possible Closures

Dinosaur

This year’s Destination D23 announced A TON of potential upcoming changes, and while we don’t have official dates for any of the following attractions, you should know it is possible that the refurbishments and closures of these attractions could begin in 2024. One of these rides includes DINOSAUR over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. DinoLand U.S.A. is already being phased out and Disney hinted that an all-new Indiana Jones attraction could arrive in Animal Kingdom, possibly replacing DINOSAUR.

Is this goodbye to It’s Tough To Be A Bug?

This Animal Kingdom attraction change is certain to happen, it’s just a matter of when. It’s Tough to be a Bug! is getting replaced with a NEW Zootopia show at some point, and that could be as early as 2024. The new show is expected to be filled with humor and action while taking the audience through the different biomes from the movie.

Test Track at EPCOT is also scheduled to get a rethemingLike the other possible closures we’ve mentioned, there is no set timeline to Test Track’s retheme so it’s very possible it remains open all year in 2024 without any refurbishment or closures. With that said, the chance that Test Track — along with DINOSAUR and It’s Tough to be a Bug! — closes temporarily in 2024 is always a possibility.
