Marvel Studios has officially dropped Jonathan Majors, who portrayed the MCU’s current main villain Kang the Conquerer, after he was found guilty of reckless assault and harassment on Monday.
Variety reported that Marvel has dropped Majors, but no other official announcements about the future of the MCU have been made.
Sources say Marvel executives have considered replacing Kang with another villain character, possibly Dr. Doom. They could also recast the role.
Majors made his debut as a Kang variant called He Who Remains in the season one finale of “Loki.” He reprised that role and appeared as another variant, Victor Timely, in “Loki” season two. He portrayed the villainous Kang in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” The ongoing Multiverse Saga is set to lead up to “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” and then “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2026 and 2027 respectively.
Disney removed the release of “Magazine Dreams,” a Searchlight Pictures film starring Majors, from their release calendar. The film originally debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January and was supposed to be released theatrically this month.
Majors was dropped by his management team and PR firm earlier this year.
