Ahead of today’s wide release of Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn, Ravensburger canceled plans to include online sales of Rise of the Floodborn in Europe and the UK, redistributing stock to other channels.
Disney Lorcana posted the following message on X in the afternoon of November 30:
To ensure the Ravensburger online store is protected against external attacks during high traffic sales we have decided to cancel our plans for online sales of Rise of the Floodborn in Europe and the UK and redistribute the stock to other channels.
With regards to our commitment to keep product stocked at retail, we are pleased to announce that reprints of The First Chapter and Rise of the Floodborn will start to roll out at retail in Europe and the UK in mid-December.
Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn was released at specialty stores and Disney Parks on November 17. Pre-sales launched on the Ravensburger online store on November 20, but an “extremely large” distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on the website affected the launch. When the website was available again, most Rise of the Floodborn products were listed as “only available in stores,” while a few would be available online on December 1.
The products that will supposedly be available are the Disney100 collector’s edition, Winnie the Pooh playmat, Rise of the Floodborn Illumineer’s Trove, and Rise of the Floodborn booster pack display.
Other retailers are also preparing for significant traffic, with Amazon requiring a virtual queue to purchase Rise of the Floodborn products.
There were significant difficulties with the game’s initial release in August. After a dangerous situation on the opening day of Gen Con 2023, there was extremely limited stock of Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter products when released later that month, leading to scarce shelves, price gouging, and an inflated resale market. Ravensburger promptly announced intentions to issue a reprint in late 2023 to increase supply.
