The Disney+ streaming service may soon launch new shopping and gaming experiences. According to Variety, Disney is considering adding the offerings and could officially announce them at a presentation in Las Vegas on January 10.
Disney+ Considering Adding Gaming and Shopping
The world of advertising experiences on AVOD [advertising-based video on demand] is an important place to be involved in,” Rita Ferro, President of Disney Advertising Sales, told Variety. Ferro said the January 10 presentation would reveal “what the next level of ad innovations will be” from Disney.
Last year, Disney+ launched an ad-supported tier that Ferro says 50 percent of new subscribers choose. Disney+ has also seen a 35 percent increase in time spent on the service. Since launching the ad-supported tier, their sponsors base has expanded from 100 clients in the U.S. to 1,000 around the world. The ad-supported tier launched globally on November 1.
This week, Disney began testing a single app for Disney+ and Hulu, in addition to their separate apps, and added a button to the websites that make it easy for subscribers to jump from one to another without logging out. Ferro said this offering is expected “to really drive engagement even further.”
Hulu already has some interactive ad formats that let users request a coupon or communication, or choose different versions of a commercial.
