Parts of the Disneyland Hotel were evacuated Thursday night as dozens of police officers responded to reports of a shooting that turned out to be a hoax.
According to officials, the dangerous prank was played by teenagers or young people and only the Fantasy Tower was affected. (via Orange County Register)
The Anaheim Police Department posted the following on Instagram:
Tonight, at approximately 6:10 p.m., Anaheim Police Department Officers received a report of an active shooter at or near the Disneyland Hotel prompting a significant police response. Responding Officers quickly determined the report was a hoax. Officers thoroughly checked the area and did not locate any evidence a shooting occurred. There is currently no threat to the Disneyland Resort or the surrounding area.
There will be an increased police presence at the Disneyland Resort and surrounding area throughout the evening.
X users posted about the police presence last night. User Disney Scoop Matt wrote at 6:37 p.m., “There’s over a dozen police cars and a helicopter and they’re not letting anyone into the Disneyland Hotel” and “They’re not even letting cast members up to the hotel”.
At 6:58 p.m., people were allowed to enter the Disneyland Hotel.
X user @daydreamingjas1 (Jasmine) posted at 6:41 p.m. about being evacuated and then wrote at 7:02 p.m., “There’s so many helicopters currently surrounding DTD / the Disneyland hotel and a heavy police presence. There are many security guards, police, and Disney executives everywhere surrounding the hotel and everyone in the area was evacuated. Stay safe everyone.”
