Planning a Disney World vacation takes a lot of work these days.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Between dining reservations, Lightning Lane selections, hotel choices, and more, it can be a lot. And, when you consider that your favorite ride may just fall victim to a closure — things can get dicey real quick. An iconic Hollywood Studios ride is closing in early 2024 and we’re sharing everything we know.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios is a fun, fast-paced coaster that features music by Aerosmith. But, beginning on January 8th, 2024, it will be closed for what may end up being a lengthy refurbishment. Right now, the Disney World website shows that the closure will last as far as the calendar goes, and we haven’t heard any sort of official announcements for a reopening date.

It’s pretty likely that the closure will end up lasting much longer — because that’s precisely what we’ve seen in the past. Earlier this year the ride was closed for refurbishment for nearly three full months.
You might be asking yourself why the ride would need a refurbishment so soon after the one that took place earlier this year, and that’s an excellent question.
Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has infamously broken down for several days in a row in the past, so during the closure earlier in 2023, we actually asked a Cast Member about this. They told us that the ride hadn’t had a full refurbishment since the parks reopened in 2020. Apparently, there is still more work to be done since Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be closing again in January.

If the 2023 timeline is any indication, we could see the ride remain closed through early April — that would be right around three months from January 8th. When Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster did reopen in 2023, it did so without warning — which came as a shock to everyone.
It’s possible Disney World could choose to surprise us yet again with another stealth reopening, but we’ll be keeping an eye on the website and calendar for any potential updates. Keep checking back here for the latest updates on this closure!
