A Florida man is suing Reedy Creek Improvement District over an alleged faulty elevator ride in Disney Springs that he claims left him with bodily injuries.
The Reedy Creek Improvement District was dissolved in June of 2023, after the incident occurred. It has since been replaced with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.
Florida Man Sues Over Disney Springs Elevator Ride
The lawsuit states that the man, Michael Johnson, was at Disney Springs in July of 2022 with his daughter. He took an elevator ride in the Orange Garage when the elevator, “malfunctioned by dropping several feet suddenly and without warning, then stopping abruptly, forcefully shaking, and dropping again before ascending to the fifth floor of the parking garage,” according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit goes on to state that as a direct result of the fall, Johnson has, “suffered bodily injury in and about his body and extremities, resulting in pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, permanent and significant scarring, mental anguish, loss of the capacity for the enjoyment of life, expense of hospitalization, medical and nursing care and treatment, loss of earnings, and loss of the ability to earn money in the future.”
Johnson is accusing the Reedy Creek Improvement District of failing to take proper care of the elevator. He is suing for $50,000 in compensatory damages.
