Could Blizzard Beach Close AGAIN in Disney World? Here’s What We Know.

When you visit Disney World, do you also visit the water parks?

Let’s go to Blizzard Beach!

As you may know, Disney World has two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Over the past three years, though, we’ve never seen both open at the same time: if one is open, the other is usually closed. Right now, Blizzard Beach is open, but we’re seeing something on the Disney World calendar that makes us wonder if it’s closing again soon.

Now, Blizzard Beach has closed temporarily recently due to weather, which does happen with the water parks from time to time. However, when we look at Disney World’s calendar, we’re noticing that Blizzard Beach isn’t showing any operating hours for dates after January 27th. It seems a little early for Disney to close the park due to the weather forecast, after all.

©Disney

Disney hasn’t stated why Blizzard Beach isn’t listing hours after that date, especially as the calendar shows operating hours past that date at Disney World’s other parks. It could be that Blizzard Beach is closing for refurbishment, but the other water park, Typhoon Lagoon, typically opens when that happens. When we checked the calendar, though, Typhoon Lagoon is also not showing hours.

©Disney

Now, there is no guarantee that both parks will be closed on or after that date, and this could be just a case of Disney not having released the hours for the water parks yet. We’ll be keeping an eye on it, though, so you know what’s going on.

The One Day You CAN’T Visit Magic Kingdom Next Week

Although things usually quiet down a little in Disney World in January, this upcoming January could be a little different.

Hope you don’t want to see this on January 6th

That’s because a lot of things are RETURNING to Disney World for the first time since 2020 on January 9th. Park pass reservations are going to be a thing of the past for almost all visitors. The Disney Dining Plan is coming back. All-day park hopping is returning. But something interesting is happening before that.

The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend kicks off on January 4th and ends on January 7th. So we already know that could be a very busy time at the resort. But just how busy? Well, we were checking park pass reservations (which don’t end until a few days AFTER the marathon) and they’re completely sold out on January 6th for Magic Kingdom.

©Disney

If you’re a Disney World Annual Passholder, you’ll notice that Magic Kingdom has no park pass reservations for both January 5th AND 6th.

©Disney

This tells us a few things. First, if you had plans to go to Magic Kingdom on January 6th, but did NOT make a park pass reservation, you can’t visit that park. Second, if you did manage to score a park pass reservation for Magic Kingdom on that date, you’ll want to prepare for crowds on that day. This means you might want to consider purchasing Genie+ to avoid long ride lines.

Expect a busy January 6th in Magic Kingdom

We’ll be interested in seeing how crowds and capacity are handled on January 9th and after when park pass reservations are no longer required for Disney World visitors with a date-based ticket. We’ll be keeping an eye on EVERYTHING in Disney World, though, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

3 Disney World Treats We Tried This Week That Once Again Convinced Us That Disney Is Our Ultimate Happy Place

Sometimes we question whether or not we should skip the Disney trip and do something else for our next vacation.

Mickey and Pals at Cinderella Castle

The beach, the mountains, a non-Disney cruise… they’re all options. When we picture that, though, we just have this heartbreaking image of Mickey being really sad. Plus, there’s something that just keeps pulling us back to the Most Magical Place on Earth. It could be the rides, the food, the entertainment, or a mix of all three. But, let’s be super honest with ourselves, here. It’s mostly the food.

There were three different occasions this week that involved food where we found ourselves thinking, “Yup. This is what it’s all about. This is my happy place.” It reminded us once again that A.) nobody does food like Disney, and B.) we have the best job EVAAAAA.

Here are three new treats that popped up this week that had us celebrating.

CROISSANT BEIGNETS !!!

Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is a fan-favorite character buffet that used to serve up waffles and French toast. Now, you can get waffles, French toast, AND seasonal pancakes. And… CROISSANT BEIGNETS!

Chef Mickey’s

Yep, these bad boys will now be available on the Chef Mickey’s buffet. The food here hasn’t been our favorite thing ever in the past, but it’s clear that they’re starting to step up their game.

A Crumbl Cookie Dupe

At Sunshine Seasons in EPCOT, you’ll find all sorts of cookies. The other day, though, we spotted one that looked awful familiar… It looks just like a Crumbl Cookie!

Birthday Cake Cookie (behind the chocolate chip)

It’s the $3.99 Birthday Cake Cookie! We’re thinking we might have to go and see if it TASTES like Crumbl too…

An Adult Capri Sun

Over at Mardi Grogs Pool Bar at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter, you’ll find the Bull Frog Brew! This sour but delicious drink is made of Minute Maid® Premium Lemonade, Green Apple, and Kiwi and costs $5.49!

Bull Frog Brew

It tastes just like a sour Capri Sun, and it’s totally zero proof. So, don’t hand this one to your kids, because you might not get it back.

NEWS: 5 Attractions Unexpectedly CLOSED on One of Disney World’s Most CROWDED Days of the Year

If you’ve been to Disney World, you know that sometimes the unexpected happens.

Rise of the Resistance

First, the weather is notoriously unpredictable. It could be raining one minute and all sunshine and hot the next. Then there are the ride closures. Some are planned (mostly for refurbishments), but sometimes rides just go down for whatever reason. Well, that’s happening today, December 30th, and it’s happening to some of Disney World’s most popular rides.

At one point today, five of Disney World’s most popular rides were closed…at the same time. In Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Expedition Everest was closed. In EPCOT, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure were closed. In Magic Kingdom, Pirates of the Caribbean was closed. In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it was Rise of the Resistance (okay, probably not a HUGE surprise there).

Later, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure re-opened, but the rest of those attractions remained closed. Not only that, but December 30th is shaping up to be one of the BUSIEST days of the year in Disney World! The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train reached a 200-minute wait, while Peter Pan’s Flight hit 160 minutes. Additionally, Genie+ (which was at its record-high price for the year) sold out for multiple parks, including Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

So, if you’re in Disney World, what should you do when multiple big closures like this happen? Well, the first thing is to look for something else to ride. There really is no other option, but you will want to keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app to see when rides reopen, especially if they’re a priority.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

If you’ve purchased Genie+, you’ll automatically get a multi-experience redemption pass that’s good for several other rides. Note that if you’re already in a ride’s Lightning Lane and have scanned in, you’ll need to go to Guest Relations to get the multi-experience pass. If you ever have questions or concerns, you can always talk with a Cast Member in Guest Relations.

Lightning Lane sign for Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

If you’ve paid for an Individual Lightning Lane for a ride, you’ll get an “experience redemption,” which acts as a boarding pass to ride that attraction when it reopens on that same day. If, for some reason, the ride does not reopen, you qualify for a refund, but you’ll have to go to Guest Relations to request it. However, you can only get the refund if the ride does not reopen or Disney announces it will be closed for the rest of the day.

Flight of Passage Queue

It isn’t exactly ideal when multiple rides go down like this, but knowing your options could keep these kinds of closures from ruining your day. We always recommend being flexible because sometimes these things just happen, even at the busiest time of the year.

Stay tuned to DFB for more.

REVIEW: We Didn’t Know These Treats Would Be the Best Part of Our Day in Disney World – But Here We Are

The holiday season is wrapping up in Disney World, and you know what that means.

The holidays in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

It means we’re already looking forward to 2024. We’ve already seen 2024 merchandise in the parks and online, and we are ready for what 2024 will bring, including LOADS of changes. But now is also the time for special New Year’s 2024 snacks — we tried our first recently, but we just discovered MORE 2024 snacks. Come with us to try them out!

The New Year’s 2024 Cupcake is BACK in Animal Kingdom. It’s a chocolate cupcake with cherry filling, almond frosting, chocolate crispy pearls, and a chocolate 2024 decoration. We’ve absolutely LOVED this treat in the past, so how does the NEWEST version stand up?

New Year’s 2024 Cupcake

So you’ve got what is essentially a chocolate explosion with a hint of cherry flavor AND edible flavor, which SCREAMS New Year’s to us. This cupcake is SO fresh that you might have a bit of a crumbly situation on your hands, but it’s SO good. The buttercream icing is super thick and creamy, but we’ll warn you that because it’s served straight out of the fridge, you’ll want to let it sit for a few minutes before biting into it.

It’s so photogenic

The thing that continues to sell us on this cupcake, though, is the cherry flavor, which adds both a sweet and sour component to the flavor. Our biggest complaint this year, though, is that we want MORE of that filling — we think they skimped a little on it this year compared to last year’s cupcake.

That filling is EVERYTHING

This is one of the freshest cupcakes you’ll find in Disney World (maybe it helps that it’s refrigerated). But you need to love chocolate to truly appreciate it. Grab it now at Pizzafari and Restaurantosaurus for $6.29. Now for the sad news: you’ll only be able to get this treat through January 2nd, so you’ll have to hurry. Are we a little upset that this treat won’t stick around longer? Yes. Yes, we are.

But wait, there’s more! We also tried the New Year’s Float, which we found at Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. It’s a Dole Whip Pineapple Float with Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava Juice, and Boba Pearls topped with Popping Candies for $6.79. Yep, a Dole Whip float — what’s not to love?

New Year’s Float

EVERYTHING just works for this float, but you can never go wrong with a POG juice and Pineapple Dole Whip combo, right? It’s rich and creamy, but those popping Boba pearls STEAL the show, and we’re 99.9% certain they were also filled with POG juice. Like WHAT?

Those Boba pearls!!!

The Dole Whip is also delicious (dur!), but again, mixed with the guava and orange in the POG juice, it’s just perfection because all the flavors combine perfectly so that one doesn’t overtake the others. Know what it feels like to hear the perfect blend of harmonies in a song? It’s like that — but with food.  If you’re both a Dole Whip and POG juice fan, GET THIS TREAT. Once again, we went through a RANGE of emotions as we enjoyed this — it’s that good.

WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! How do you choose (we don’t want to choose but will blow our budget on Day 1 otherwise)? We’ve got you covered! We have reviewed nearly EVERY snack available at Disney World, and we’ve written a series of DFB Guides about them!

“Zootopia” was released in U.S. theaters on March 4, 2016. It’s directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore from a screenplay by Jared Bush and Phil Johnston. It stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps and Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde. It is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with a critic score of 98% and an audience score of 92%, and a sequel is in development.

In 2022, Disney released “Zootopia+” on Disney+. This anthology mini-series told small stories that were set during the events of the film.

Disney Holiday Cruises: A Magical Celebration at Sea

Disney Cruise Line fully embraces the holiday spirit with its Merrytime and Halloween on the High Seas cruises. When you step aboard one of these specialty sailings, you’ll be immersed in festive decor, events, entertainment, food, and more as the ships come alive for the seasons. Keep reading for a detailed overview of what the celebrations entail for both Christmas and Halloween Disney cruises.

Christmas Cruises: Very Merrytime

Have a Holly Jolly Cruise-mas This Winter Aboard Very Merrytime Cruises

Very Merrytime Cruises transform Disney’s ships into winter wonderlands, capturing the merriment of the holidays from bow to stern. These cruises sail from early November through December, with itineraries ranging from 2 nights to 7 nights.

Decor

The Yuletide adornments start as soon as you embark. A towering, three-deck-high tree decorated with ribbons and ornaments greets you in the magnificent lobby atrium. Garlands, lights, poinsettias, snowflakes, wreaths, and a life-sized gingerbread house further set the mood. Your stateroom receives holiday embellishments too. Book the Very Merrytime Premium Holiday Package to have your room dressed up with a mini tree, stockings, holiday bed runners, a holiday towel animal, and more. On Christmas cruises, the ships go all-out with extra decor like Santa hats on the smoke stacks. The Disney private island Castaway Cay sparkles with a Christmas tree, fake snowfall, and festive music.

Events

Very Merrytime brings beloved holiday happenings like:

  • Mickey’s Tree-Lighting Magic: Mickey, Minnie, and pals host this tree lighting ceremony on the first night with carols and the official illumination of the lobby Christmas tree.
  • Santa’s Winter Wonderland Ball: Mrs. Claus story time and an appearance by Santa and Disney characters highlight this event. “Snow” falls in the atrium too!
  • Deck the Deck Holiday Party: This tropical celebration on the pool deck features Disney characters in holiday garb, music, dancing, cookies, and cocoa.

On Christmas cruises, kids can partake in a holiday cookie decorating activity. Other Very Merrytime activities encompass holiday crafts, family karaoke, holiday movie sing-alongs, dance parties, and youth clubs events.

Entertainment

The Walt Disney Theatre dazzles with a holiday production show that blends singing, dancing, and special effects. Other entertainment includes a guest piano player performing Christmas carols in the lobby, carolers singing throughout the ship, and characters dressed in new holiday costumes.

Menus

On Christmas Day, the main dining rooms serve a special Happy Holidays dinner menu. The festive feast highlights include:

  • Amuse-bouches like a cranberry and brie bite
  • Starters like a holiday seafood sampler
  • Soups like roasted chestnut bisque
  • Salads like an arugula and beet duo
  • Main courses like cider brined turkey breast and prime rib
  • Desserts like gingerbread cheesecake and chocolate Yule log

The regular dining rotation also receives holiday touches like cranberry bread, pumpkin soup, and Buche de Noel cake. On all Very Merrytime sailings, seasonal treats get served like hot chocolate, snickerdoodles, eggnog, pecan tarts, and candy cane gelato.

Halloween Cruises: Halloween on the High Seas

From September through October, Halloween on the High Seas transforms Disney’s ships into ghoulish wonderlands brimming with spooky decor, entertainment, and activities. These sailings span anywhere from 2 nights to 7 nights.

Decor

Halloween makeovers start when you walk into the lobby atrium. A towering pumpkin tree with carved jack-o’-lanterns makes a bold first impression. Other frightful decorations include pumpkin garlands, haunted portraits, spiderwebs, and Halloween-themed music. Beyond the atrium, keep your eyes peeled for creepy accents like mummy statues in the shops, ghostly placemats in the restaurants, and pumpkin stickers haunting the portholes. Disney really goes all out with the ambiance.

Events

Mickey’s Mouse-querade Halloween Party, the signature event, invites guests to show up in costume for trick-or-treating, dance parties, and Disney characters dressed up too. Awakening the Pumpkin Tree Ceremony also draws crowds as Ray the firefly works his magic to transform the carved pumpkins. Other ghoulish activities encompass mask making, pumpkin carving demonstrations, Halloween crafts, spooky movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas, a ghost storytelling seance, and a Villainous Takeover adult costume bash.

Entertainment

While the regular Broadway-style shows carry on, the atrium lobby welcomes a ghostly piano player. And on Pirate Night, look for Jack Sparrow and his pirate pals to make appearances.

Menus

On Mickey’s Mouse-querade night, the main dining rooms serve up Halloween-themed dishes like candy corn soup, spider web chicken, and chocolate ghost cake. Elsewhere, you’ll discover treats like candy apples, pumpkin spice cupcakes, and orange-green split soft serve. Spooky specialty drinks include poisons, potions, and the pumpkin fog fizz.

Thanksgiving Cruises

Disney Cruise Line ships that sail during the Thanksgiving holiday offer a traditional Thanksgiving dinner menu in the main dining rooms on Thanksgiving Day (November 24th). The Thanksgiving menu typically includes:

  • Roasted turkey
  • Stuffing
  • Mashed potatoes and gravy
  • Green beans
  • Cranberry relish
  • Pumpkin pie

There are also opportunities to watch football games on the ships. For example, the Dream and Fantasy have a giant Funnel Vision LED screen that shows sports. Guests can watch games from the pool deck. While there are not full-fledged Thanksgiving themed events, the ships make an effort to celebrate the American holiday for those sailing over the holiday.

New Year’s Eve Cruises

Disney goes all-out on New Year’s Eve with festive celebrations on each ship. There are special events, entertainment, menus, and more to ring in the new year:

Events: Countdown parties and champagne toasts on the pool deck, a family-friendly dance party, and youth club celebrations

Entertainment: Live music, guest piano players performing in the atrium, and the main stage show gets a holiday twist

Menus: Special NYE menus in the main dining rooms, with dishes like lobster, filet mignon, and NY-inspired desserts. Lounges have specialty cocktails.

Gifts: Passengers receive New Year’s Eve keepsakes like champagne flutes and lithographs

Fireworks: On some sailings, there are two nights of fireworks – on NYE and Pirate Night.

So while Thanksgiving is acknowledged with a holiday meal, New Year’s Eve goes above and beyond with decorations, events, entertainment and more to ring in the new year on the high seas.

Holiday Cruises to Castaway Cay

Ship in water with signage

During the Very Merrytime Disney Cruises that sail over the Christmas season, Castaway Cay gets decorated to celebrate the holidays. The decorations and theming include:

  • A Christmas tree decorated with ornaments and lights
  • Fake snowfall on the beaches and trails
  • Holiday music playing throughout the island
  • Disney characters dressed up in seasonal costumes for photo opportunities

Guests who visit Castaway Cay over Christmas can take pictures with Mickey, Minnie and pals dressed as elves, reindeer, toy soldiers, and in ugly Christmas sweaters. It makes for very festive and one-of-a-kind family photos. The holiday enhancements definitely put guests in the Christmas spirit as they explore Castaway Cay and partake in activities like snorkeling, biking, stingray interactions, and relaxing on the family or adult-only beaches. It becomes a tropical winter wonderland.

Planning Your Disney Holiday Cruise

  • These holiday sailings book up faster, so reserve early.
  • Opt for longer cruises to experience more of the festivities.

PHOTO: Guardians of the Galaxy Mission BREAKOUT! Stage Erected In Front of Tower of Terror at Disneyland Paris

Although the ride doesn’t exist at Disneyland Paris, a stage themed to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! has been erected in front of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in the resort’s Walt Disney Studios Park. The Disney California Adventure version of Tower of Terror was turned into Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! in 2017 and was later absorbed into Avengers Campus. The Tower of Terror at Disneyland Paris is steps from Avengers Campus but has not been re-themed.

DLP Report shared a photo on X of the temporary stage in Production Courtyard. It features themed paneling similar to the Mission: BREAKOUT! façade in California (pictured below). The panels look like they are made up of red and yellow sheets of metal, with pipes and wires running over them.

Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout

The stage is for a Guardians of the Galaxy Dance Challenge show that will take place starting at 10:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. The theming may not be a portend of things to come but it has some Tower of Terror fans worried. X user @LeeuwisRyan replied to DLP Report’s post, “I dont like the look [of] gardians near tower of terror. It makes me scared for its future.”

Tower of Terror History

Tower of terror featured image h

The original Twilight Zone Tower of Terror opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 22, 1994, and remains operational to this day. The Disney California Adventure opened in 2004 and closed in 2017 to become Mission: BREAKOUT! The surrounding land became Avengers Campus in 2021.

The Disneyland Paris version opened on December 22, 2007. It was originally named The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, just like the first two versions. With a 2019 update, it officially became The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror: A New Dimension of Chills. It received new effects and randomized storylines. Avengers Campus opened at Disneyland Paris in 2022.

The Tokyo DisneySea version of the attraction has no connections to “The Twilight Zone” and is just called Tower of Terror. It has an original storyline set in Hotel Hightower.

A “Tower of Terror” TV movie starring Steve Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst was released in 1997. It was Disney’s first film based on a theme park ride.

Scarlett Johansson is producing a new Tower of Terror movie, with “Toy Story 4” co-writer and director Josh Cooley writing the script and Taika Waititi of “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Thor: Love and Thunder” attached to direct. Johansson said on a recent “The Today Show” appearance that the script was being polished.

While we all had high hopes that Disney’s centennial year would be special, most would agree it has been a bit disappointing. While there were highlights, they were overshadowed by real-world events and large scale layoffs. Although 2023 […]
