Although the ride doesn’t exist at Disneyland Paris, a stage themed to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! has been erected in front of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in the resort’s Walt Disney Studios Park. The Disney California Adventure version of Tower of Terror was turned into Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! in 2017 and was later absorbed into Avengers Campus. The Tower of Terror at Disneyland Paris is steps from Avengers Campus but has not been re-themed.
Guardians of the Galaxy Stage at Tower of Terror
DLP Report shared a photo on X of the temporary stage in Production Courtyard. It features themed paneling similar to the Mission: BREAKOUT! façade in California (pictured below). The panels look like they are made up of red and yellow sheets of metal, with pipes and wires running over them.
The stage is for a Guardians of the Galaxy Dance Challenge show that will take place starting at 10:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. The theming may not be a portend of things to come but it has some Tower of Terror fans worried. X user @LeeuwisRyan replied to DLP Report’s post, “I dont like the look [of] gardians near tower of terror. It makes me scared for its future.”
Tower of Terror History
The original Twilight Zone Tower of Terror opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 22, 1994, and remains operational to this day. The Disney California Adventure opened in 2004 and closed in 2017 to become Mission: BREAKOUT! The surrounding land became Avengers Campus in 2021.
The Disneyland Paris version opened on December 22, 2007. It was originally named The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, just like the first two versions. With a 2019 update, it officially became The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror: A New Dimension of Chills. It received new effects and randomized storylines. Avengers Campus opened at Disneyland Paris in 2022.
The Tokyo DisneySea version of the attraction has no connections to “The Twilight Zone” and is just called Tower of Terror. It has an original storyline set in Hotel Hightower.
A “Tower of Terror” TV movie starring Steve Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst was released in 1997. It was Disney’s first film based on a theme park ride.
Scarlett Johansson is producing a new Tower of Terror movie, with “Toy Story 4” co-writer and director Josh Cooley writing the script and Taika Waititi of “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Thor: Love and Thunder” attached to direct. Johansson said on a recent “The Today Show” appearance that the script was being polished.
