Disney has finally replaced or covered the last few 50th anniversary medallions on gold Fab 50 Character Collection statues in Magic Kingdom. Medallions were removed from most of the statues in late September, but a handful had medallions that were more incorporated into their designs rather than just stuck on their bases. To fix this, Disney has installed new medallions with themed icons on them. Strangely, the new medallions are white and silver instead of gold to match the statues.
Dumbo & Timothy Q. Mouse
Dumbo’s medallion was on his circus platform.
Now a small white medallion features a silver and white five-pointed star.
The sparkling silver on these new medallions is reminiscent of the Disney100 celebration’s platinum color, which may be why they aren’t the “EARidescent” 50th anniversary gold, but the different finishes still look odd.
Here is the statue with the 50th anniversary medallion as seen previously. The statue is in a planter near the bridge to Tomorrowland and Fantasyland.
Jaq & Gus
Jaq and Gus are on the castle wall to the right of Cinderella Castle in the Hub.
Their new white medallion has a silver flower-like design that matches other castle decorations.
Here is the statue with its old 50th medallion.
Stitch
Stitch’s statue, on the Purple Wall outside Tomorrowland, was designed with Stitch chewing on his 50th anniversary medallion.
A new piece has been installed over the “50” and features alien symbols similar to the Tantalong language in the “Lilo & Stitch” series.
While the Tantalog alphabet is available for translation, these symbols appear to be random and/or incorrect. The one on the top is a backward P, the one on the left is a backward and upside-down F that’s missing a diacritic mark, and the one on the right doesn’t match any character in the Tantalog alphabet.
Here is how the Stitch statue looked with the “50” visible.
Abu
Abu is on the entrance archway of Adventureland in Magic Kingdom.
He was holding up a 50th medallion, but now holds up a white medallion featuring a globe/compass logo.
The logo is reminiscent of the Spaceship Earth symbol.
Abu’s new medallion is also clearly stuck over the old “50.”
Orange Bird
Orange Bird, on a perch on an Adventureland patio, has a new medallion on his stand.
This small silver medallion features a sun.
Here’s what the statue looked like with its 50th anniversary medallion visible.
Tinker Bell
Tinker Bell, on a tall pole near the Liberty Square bridge, has a new white medallion featuring the second star to the right.
There are also two small stars around the main eight-pointed star.
Like the other statues, this new medallion just covers up the 50th logo.
Cheshire Cat
While most of these medallions appear to be on top of the old ones, the Cheshire Cat does have an entirely new medallion. We know because the old one was removed in September.
The new medallion, on the blanket beneath the Cheshire Cat, who is lounging in a tree outside Mad Tea Party, features a hypnotic swirl.
It’s inspired by the swirls that appear in the Cheshire Cat’s eyes in the original animated film.
