There have been significant changes to the exterior of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom in the past few weeks since our last construction update. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a “Princess and the Frog” reimagining of Splash Mountain, which closed permanently in January. The new ride is scheduled to open in late 2024.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Ride
Scaffolding has been removed from the flume that loops under the bridge at the end of the ride. The curved walls have been cleaned up since the scaffolding was removed.
One scaffolding platform remains near the left tunnel as a walkway across the flume.
New foliage was planted within the loop over the past few weeks.
We noticed a large fake rock with a hole in it to the side of the flume.
Tarps cover some of the track under the right tunnel.
This is where exterior construction work first started. It seems it may be wrapping up now.
Meanwhile, the mountaintop is now completely covered in flowers, which crews first began installing on December 1.
Several more branches and leaves have been added to the fake trees around the water tower, too, bringing significant greenery to the view.
Several crew members were working across the mountaintop during our visit on Monday.
The flowers cover the rounded top and descend down the sides.
Scaffolding remains up around one of the fake trees, which has Spanish moss hanging from its branches.
The mountain has come a long way from its mostly rocky appearance with a barren tree on top of it.
The hundreds of flowers appear to be white and pink.
In the story of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Tiana has established the co-op Tiana’s Foods, which grows crops along the water flowing through an old salt mine. New pepper props in the Native American village next to the Rivers of America suggest a connection to Tiana’s Foods, which has a line of hot sauces and features peppers in its posters.
Frontierland Station & Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Queue
During the construction of the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure queue, most of the exit from the Frontierland train station was demolished and is being rebuilt. While construction goes on, guests are exiting back through the station entrance when disembarking from the train.
Dark wooden boards have been installed around the new staircase.
The crew members on the ramp and stairs were securing a new safety railing, which is attached to the themed wooden railing.
Disney is probably hoping to reopen the station exit sooner rather than later.
More boards and construction materials are under the train station’s exit ramp.
Most of the ground directly in front of the station is just dirt, but there is a swath of red pavement.
A short row of stones lines one edge of the pavement.
A crew member on scaffolding was working on the front of the station.
Directly below the station, brickwork lines a pathway that’s part of the new queue.
Behind the train station, crew members have erected more construction walls, suggesting some of the current walls may come down.
Crews have been installing cobblestones on the pathways curving behind the station.
New metal railings line the paved sidewalks.
The new construction walls — which feature the same Southern Dome Salt Company stamps as the walls in front of the attraction — begin approximately where the finished walkways end.
Beyond the walls are sections of the queue that have yet to be completely redone.
The metal railings and cobblestone pathways make the area look a little more like New Orleans.
The theming is a stark contrast to the more folksy wood fencing still visible from the Splash Mountain queue.
Guests riding the Walt Disney World Railroad get a clear view of half of the barn’s mural. The other half faces away from the station.
It looks like crew members are preparing to install more cobblestones on the ground in front of the barn.
Some of the metal railings have extra hand railings, currently wrapped in blue plastic or tape.
If the construction walls are moved, we may get to walk in this area before the ride opens.
