On a recent trip to Magic Kingdom, we noticed that the Sea Serpent topiary that has been patrolling the grounds near the Hub since opening day in 1971 has been refurbished, and a feature that has not been present for many years had returned to this magnificent verdant beast.

The sea serpent topiary, one of a handful of original topiary characters on Walt Disney World property, has not been feeling his serpent-y best on our last few trips to Magic Kingdom. His misting feature that makes it appear that he is breathing has not been running for years, but appears to be in working order once again.

The topiary, which was in the parks well before the first paying guest ever set foot inside the park, can be seen in the grassy area between the hub and the moat by the walkway to Tomorrowland.

The sea serpent is comprised of several pieces, spaced apart so that they look as if they are going under the surface of the ground before re-emerging again a few feet beyond, creating the appearance that the sea serpent is swimming through the “water.”
