PHOTOS: New Picket Fence Complete, More Flowers and Tree Branches Installed at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom

Flowers are blooming across the top of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the upcoming “Princess and the Frog” attraction that will replace Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom. Crews have been working on the finer details of the ride’s façade and there have been a few additions since our last construction update.

The fake trees around the Tiana’s Foods water tower now have branches of green leaves and Spanish moss.

In the backstory of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Tiana has established the co-op Tiana’s Foods, which grows crops along the water flowing through an old salt mine.

The new bayou trees surround the lower parts of the ride track that are hidden behind construction walls.

When the trees were first installed, they had no branches.

A large part of the transformation of Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has been adding more greenery to the façade.

There are still a few branch stumps on this tree awaiting their full leafy branches.

Scaffolding surrounds the trees and the mountain.

Fake foliage nearly completely covers the mountain’s brown and red rocks now.

Over the past few weeks, crews have been installing pink and white flowers across the mountaintop.

The flowers descend the front of the mountain.

This is where we’ve seen the most crew members in the past few weeks.

During our first look at construction this week, tarps covered some floral sections on the front and left side of the mountain.

It looks like these tarps were protecting flowers that had already been installed from work taking place above them.

The next day, the tarps were gone, and work had moved away from those spaces.

The front of the millhouse that the ride ascends through was also repainted green a few weeks ago.

The flowers and foliage continue around the side of the mountain, visible from near the ride’s entrance.

Flume

In our last construction update, we noted that most of the scaffolding platforms had been removed from this ground-level section of the ride’s flume.

One platform remains for crew members who continue working in the area. Large rocks sit in the flume on one side of the platform.

The water in the flume is from recent rain.

A tarp covers a section of track leaving the right tunnel.

We saw some crew members in this area earlier this week.

There are some scaffolding and construction materials inside both tunnels.

We’ve previously seen lots of rockwork in these tunnels.

Queue

Construction also continues on the ride’s queue, which runs under the Frontierland train station. The station remains open and operating, although the usual exit is closed and guests are re-routed back through the entrance.

Crews have been constructing new exit stairs.

The new handrails installed last week have been partially painted black.

There is also a tarp on the front of the train station for some work.

tianas construction mk dec 2023 1814

Guests can still walk into an area behind the station, where we can get a better view of the side of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

The new fence that runs along an outdoor section of flume seems to be complete now.

The picket fence has dark brown supports and light brown pickets.

Exposed DenseGlass sheathing and a black tarp remain on the back section of the queue’s barn.

New rows of construction walls have been erected in the front and back of the queue, suggesting the current walls may be removed, opening up some more space.

From the train station, we can see the new exit stairs.

A new themed lamp has been installed on the side of the stairwell.

The new queue has wrought-iron railings and cobblestone sidewalks, seemingly to better resemble New Orleans.

tianas construction mk dec 2023 1832

Since our last update, many more construction walls have been erected around these cobblestone paths.

tianas construction mk dec 2023 1829

The area in front of the barn has also been cleaned up, possibly to get its own cobblestones soon.

Crews are working on the queue in sections, with this area nearly complete before they move further back.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is scheduled to open at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland in late 2024. Check out our most recent construction update from Disneyland.
