The shape of Shrek’s house in Universal Studios Florida has become much more obvious since our last look at the park’s new DreamWorks land. Universal Orlando Resort announced in July that DreamWorks would take over the space previously occupied by Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone and concept art made it clear there would be a Trolls roller-coaster and a new Shrek meet and greet.
DreamWorks Land
The Trolls roller-coaster is a re-theme of Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster and a trademark filing suggests it will be named Trollercoaster. Another trademark was for DreamWorks Land. The Shrek and Donkey meet and greet, just visible to the right side of the concept art, resembles Shrek’s swamp, including his tree stump house.
Shrek’s House Construction
What was previously just a framework is now clearly a tree, with a brown base over the supports, but below the wire frames.
More “wood” paneling and foliage will be added to the tree later on.
Concept art indicates guests won’t be able to enter the house, but that Shrek and Donkey will greet guests outside, with the swamp as a backdrop.
The swamp is located directly in front of E.T. Toy Closet.
Concept art also included Shrek’s famous outhouse, on a nearby hill inaccessible to guests.
New brown poles have been installed behind the house.
They appear to have a wood-like finish and may be supports for a future structure.
The actual wood appears to be some kind of temporary railing for construction.
In the background is the green, yellow, and orange Trollercoaster.
Shrek, Donkey, and sometimes Fiona previously met guests next to Shrek 4-D. That meet and greet closed to make way for Minion Land and the characters temporarily moved to the KidZone, taking over the old Barney Shop. Shrek and other DreamWorks characters now appear in the Hollywood section of Universal Studios Florida.
A building permit revealed that a kiosk in the Shrek area of DreamWorks Land will be called Swamp Snacks.
Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone closed permanently in January 2023, though E.T. Adventure and Animal Actors on Location! remain open. Take a look back at Fievel’s Playland, Curious George Goes to Town, and the rest of the Kidzone.
