Star Wars Unlimited Game Designers Reveal Their Favorite Decks Ahead of Trading Card Game Release

With Star Wars Unlimited coming to a galaxy near you (read: your friendly local game shop) in just a few months, the designers of the game’s first set have shared a peek at their favorite decks from playtesting.

Star Wars Unlimited Game Designers Reveal Their Favorite Decks

Danny Schaefer, Tyler Parrott, and Jeremy Zwirn designed “Spark of Rebellion,” the first set in the upcoming and highly anticipated Star Wars: Unlimited Trading Card Game. The deckbuilding game requires players to build their deck by collecting and trading cards.

For deckbuilding game players, the strategies and methods one uses while playing are what make the game fun and keep the content fresh. Certain decks play “aggressively,” meaning they quickly reach the game’s win condition. Others seek “board control,” meaning they don’t allow for other players to exercise their strategies.

Shaefer, Parrott, and Zwirn each shared a Star Wars Unlimited deck they playtested, along with information about how it plays and the strategies for playing each deck, on the game’s official X account (formerly Twitter):

This deck is a midrange deck, meaning that it houses most of its powerful plays toward the middle of the game.

It seeks maximum synergy between cards, and sees a lot of round 6 and 7 cards getting played as early as round 3 (but more often in round 4). These early-out powerful cards make for a quick, controlled board.

This deck was built as an attack deck and, while it might not be the strongest deck to play, it’s thematic. It centers around Darth Vader commanding a legion of Storm Troopers, and offers storyline-style opportunities for Vader to come in and finish off the opponent after the troopers weaken defenses.

One of the other pros of playing this deck is that it’s entirely built with common and uncommon cards, so it should be easier to assemble than some decks running rarer cards.

This deck plays as a tempo deck, meaning it works to outpace your opponent through smart plays that put you ahead. If you’ve been playing Disney Lorcana, you’d get ahead by playing cards that send your opponent’s cards back to their hand and stack more ink in your inkwell.

This one performs similarly within the gameplay of Star Wars: Unlimited, sending cards back to the player’s hand, playing fast and consistently. It’s weaker in a late game, so players who run this deck should aim for an early finish.

Will you be giving one of these decks built by the game designers a shot when Star Wars: Unlimited launches globally on March 8, 2024? Let us know in the comments if you’re already building your dream deck.
