Disney has shared a behind-the-scenes look at “Luminous: The Symphony of Us,” the new nighttime spectacular that’s set to debut at EPCOT tomorrow, December 5.
Disney Shares Behind-the-Scenes Look at ‘Luminous: The Symphony of Us’
The video uploaded by the official Disney Parks YouTube channel chronicles a previously reported testing session that occurred in early November.
In the video, Disney follows several Cast Members as they perform their show duties and discuss the different elements involved in bringing “Luminous” to the World Showcase Lagoon at EPCOT.
Paul, Production Stage Manager for “Luminous: The Symphony of Us,” shared one of the most exciting pieces of information about the show: it will look the same from all points around the lagoon. A major drawback of the previous show, “Harmonious,” was that it was only fully viewable from one angle around the entire lagoon.
Matt and Miranda, technicians responsible for driving the barges into the lagoon, not only shared their role…
…but also demonstrated the process.
Daniel, Senior Lighting Designer, shared how his role helps bring the magic to life.
Chris, a fountain programmer from the show, explained how his work tied in with the work the other designers were doing to help make a seamless show for guests.
Lyra, a laser designer, was enthusiastic to share her process and how she uses lasers to drive the story of the show.
Stacey, a producer with Disney Live Entertainment, organizes and keeps everyone on track during the process.
In addition to watching these Cast Members lift the veil on the technical and creative process that brings this show to life, we also got some of our first glimpses of the new nighttime spectacular in the video. The fan-favorite launched fireworks toward the center of the lagoon appear to be returning.
More fireworks were also teased in the video, both on monitors and live.

‘Luminous: The Symphony of Us’
“Luminous: The Symphony of Us” will technically replace “EPCOT Forever,” but serves as a permanent replacement for “Harmonious” following the latter show’s stoppage in April 2023. “Harmonious” was announced at Destination D23 in 2018 and debuted in October 2021 for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World, replacing “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth,” which had been showing since 1999.
“Harmonious” ran for the final time on April 2, 2023, to make way for its ultimate replacement, which at that point was an unnamed upcoming nighttime spectacular celebrating “100 Years of Wonder and the 40th anniversary of EPCOT” that was announced in September 2022. “Harmonious” was temporarily replaced by the returning “EPCOT Forever,” the interim show that first ran between the closure of “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” and the opening of “Harmonious.”
“Luminous: The Symphony of Us” missed the start of Disney100 celebrations at EPCOT on September 22; though never formally announced to commence in September, sources have indicated to us that Disney targeted a “late September or early October” start date for the spectacular but delayed it after being initially unhappy with the Pinar Toprak-composed score.
The new nighttime show will debut on December 5, the same day that Dreamers Point and World Celebration Gardens will open at EPCOT. Guests visiting the neighborhood on its partial opening date will have the opportunity to listen to a new World Celebration background music loop composed by Toprak.
