Walt Disney World has released updated guidance for how virtual queues will work beginning on January 9, when all-dark Park Hopping will return and date-based tickets will no longer need Park Pass reservations. Right now, guests can join a virtual queue at 7 a.m. for a ride in a park they have a Park Pass for, or at 1 p.m. for a ride in the park they are in (which they would need a Park Pass to enter). Park Hopping begins at 2 p.m.

Virtual Queue Changes for 2024

Here is what the virtual queues webpage of the Walt Disney World site now states:

Starting January 9, Guests will be able to join one attraction virtual queue at any theme park where they have valid admission. Guests may hold one attraction virtual queue at a time. Like today:

• Select admission types may also require a theme park reservation to join a virtual queue.
• Guests do not need to be inside a theme park to request to join the virtual queue at 7:00 AM.
• Guests must be inside the theme park to request to join the virtual queue at 1:00 PM.

The rule about being inside the theme park still applies for the 1 p.m. virtual queue distribution. “Valid admission” would mean any ticket with entry to that park that day, regardless of whether or not you have a Park Pass.

Beginning on January 11, Walt Disney World Annual Passholders and Cast Members will not need Park Passes for select “good-to-go” days.

At Walt Disney World right now, TRON Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind regularly use virtual queues. During Disney Jollywood Nights and possibly future after-hours events, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance uses a virtual queue.
