Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has been under construction to replace the beloved and classic Splash Mountain.
Disney has been working hard to have this attraction up and working soon! The ride is themed to the Disney movie The Princess and the Frog which follows the adventures of Tiana who magically transforms into a frog. The movie takes several exciting twists and turns, and we’re hoping to see the same on the princess’s ride. Disney hasn’t given a specific timeline for the ride’s opening, but we’ve noticed some shifts in language when it’s brought up.
The Walt Disney Company is very particular about what words they use in all of their content. The way something is said and/or written can have varying meanings and very specific meanings, so Disney is careful about what they say so they are communicating very precisely what they mean.
When Disney first announced, in 2022, that Splash Mountain would be closing in Disney World and Disneyland, they stated that the new ride, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, would be opening in late 2024. They specifically used the word “late.”
But now, in a recent blog post, Disney has removed the word “late” and has simply stated that it’s opening in 2024. It’s very interesting to us (knowing how intentional Disney is with their words) that they have left out this potentially important adjective.
Since they have changed their verbiage to simply state 2024 makes us curious if there has been a shift in the opening timeline. Could we potentially be seeing this opening earlier? If it’s not late 2024, then we might guess it would be earlier 2024.
However, we do know that Fantasy Springs in Tokyo Disney is opening in June of this year, so we find it unlikely that both new attractions would open in the same month.
Historically, rides that are in both Disneyland and Disney World open years apart from the other. For example, Journey of the Little Mermaid and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway are also two rides that are on both coasts, but were built and opened years apart. Separated openings of rides on both coasts are typically the norm that we see. Even Splash Mountain originally opened 3 years apart at the two locations.
But in this case, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is being built simultaneously on both coasts. That is most similar to what we say with Rise of the Resistance on both coasts. Rise of the Resistance opened on both coasts just a few weeks apart — on December 5th, 2019 in Disney World, while Rise of the Resistance opened in Disneyland on January 17th, 2020.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was announced for Disneyland and Magic Kingdom the same way, “late 2024” and now simply “2024.” So could we see them opening simultaneously, or will Disney separate their openings by months — hence only stating the more general year, 2024?
When looking at Disney’s announcements and news, it’s important to pay close attention to how they’re saying what is being said. There could be subtle meanings behind anything they’re sharing due to their very intentional use of words. We’ll be very interested to see if they make any more announcements about the opening timelines for this new ride, in the two Disney parks.
