Location
The lounge is located on the 16th floor of Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
History
The original Top of the World Restaurant and Lounge operated at Disney’s Contemporary Resort from 1971 to 1993. It was located on the resort’s uppermost floors and offered dining with views of the Magic Kingdom park. When Bay Lake Tower opened at the Contemporary Resort in 2009, the new lounge area on the 16th floor was named “Top of the World Lounge” as an homage to the original Top of the World from the 1970s.
The contemporary lounge carried on some of the traditions of its predecessor by offering scenic views of the Magic Kingdom fireworks at night. However, it was now exclusively for Disney Vacation Club members staying at Bay Lake Tower. In 2022, the Top of the World Lounge underwent a transformation into a villain’s lair theme. The backstory is that villains have taken over the space as their secret hideout to relax away from the public.
This theme is reflected in the lounge’s decor, food/drink offerings, and name change to “Top of the World Lounge – A Villain’s Lair”. The newly reimagined Top of the World Lounge reopened in July 2022. While adopting a villainous twist, it continues the lounge’s legacy of providing DVC members a special place to unwind with fireworks views atop Bay Lake Tower
